ELIZABETH CITY, NC (AP) — The Elizabeth City campus of College of The Albemarle is scheduled to resume classes one day after an unspecified threat led to the evacuation of students and staff.

The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City reported that both police and school officials say they think it’s safe for students and staff to return Tuesday. Police Chief Charles Crudup says officers will be on the campus for
the next several days, however.

Crudup said the threat was made via email. But he would not discuss the nature of the threat or say whether the suspect is male or female. Crudup also refused to say whether the suspect is a local resident.

The chief said no bomb squad was called to the campus.
