WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Former Hoggard kicker Casey Barth entered the season needing only five field goals to break his older brother’s career field goal record at North Carolina, but so far Casey only has one field goal this year. In fact he’s missed two games entirely due to a groin injury. Casey has been bothered by the injury for several months.
Scott Braswell coached both Casey and Connor at Hoggard.
“Casey tried to work through the injury,” Braswell said. “Unfortunately at halftime of the UNC-Virginia game he had to shut it down all together. They did an MRI. They’re still trying to find out whether there’s a tear and what the issue is. I think right now it’s week to week. He’s seems to be progressing and doing better, and yet at the same time as this season slips away week by week it raises the possibility of doing a medical redshirt for him so he can get a good full season next year.”
Connor Barth is flourishing with the 3-1 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He’s 7 for 8 in field goals this season.
Braswell enjoyed watching Connor on Monday night football.
“To see him on Monday Night Football was so exciting,” Braswell said. “The first one clanked off the goal post. Connor’s a great kid. I was glad to see him come back out. He hit the next one right before the half, although they had too many people on the field, but he was able to nail one from 46, so we’re really proud of Connor and all of his accomplishments.”
