WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Hoggard High School students witnessed a simulated fatal car crash involving a teenage driver Thursday afternoon.

The Wilmington Police and Fire departments alongside other public safety agencies participated in the event.

After the impact of the simulated accident, students and faculty witnessed a jogger calling 9-1-1 as well as sounds of the dispatched call and the events that unfolded afterwards.

Students say the event was a huge wake-up call.

“It was eye opening,” said Nick Dolley, a student at Hoggard. “It just makes you realize the consequences of things you don’t really think about, texting, you think it’s something simple, something no harm will come from it, but it shows you what can happen.”

Students say they really learned from the event and saw what could happen from drinking and driving.
