LELAND, NC (WWAY) — After an ongoing WWAY NewsChannel 3 Investigation into allegations of misconduct and corruption within the Leland Police Department, the Leland Town Council has called a special meeting tonight at 7 p.m. to discuss what Mayor Pro Tem Brenda Bozeman calls “personnel actions.” Leland residents are encouraged to be at the meeting.

Councilwoman Martha Currie originally asked Leland Mayor Walter Futch to call the meeting, but he did not. Bozeman then went behind Currie and called the meeting with Councilwoman Pat Batleman’s support.

This will be the first public meeting where any town council member has responded to our ongoing stories. Most refuse to return our calls for comment.
