ASHEVILLE, NC (AP) — The Occupy Asheville movement is looking for a place to occupy.

Supporters of the movement asked the city council to allow them to stay in Pack Square Park past the 10 p.m. curfew so they could camp there indefinitely.

The council refused, saying other groups have scheduled events in the park. But the council said it will work with the group to find a temporary location for its members to camp.

Group member Jennifer Foster says 20 to 40 people have camped at various downtown locations. The Asheville protest typically attracts more than 100 people each evening to Pritchard Park.

Foster says she doesn’t know how long Occupy Asheville will need a permanent spot.

Occupy Asheville grew out of the Occupy Wall Street movement in New York’s financial district.
