WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A bicyclist has died after running a red light and being struck by a minivan on Sunday evening.
The accident happened around 10 p.m. near Independence Boulevard and Wrightsville Avenue in Wilmington. Police say the driver of the minivan, 19-year-old Mahmoud Rommouni, was traveling north on Independence Boulevard and had the right of way when he fatally struck 19-year-old Rudolph Warren, Junior.
Warren sustained a head injury and was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he died early Monday morning. Police say Warren was not wearing a helmet, and that the bicycle did not have visible lights.
Investigators determined the driver of the van was not at fault and will not face charges.
