WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Less than a month after a Wilmington man appealed his murder conviction, the North Carolina Court of Appeals has made its ruling.

The justices upheld Anthony Pierce’s second-degree murder conviction. A jury found him guilty in causing the death of Wilmington Police Ofc. Rich Matthews as Matthews joined a pursuit of Pierce’s SUV in 2009.

The court, though, vacated Pierce’s possession of a firearm by a felon conviction for a gun found along the route of the chase. The court ruled the trial judged erred by not dismissing the charge.

No word yet on whether pierce will appeal to a higher court.

Now stick a needle in his arm and have him go sleepy.

  • Guest461 says:

…tend to make ignorant assumptions and even more ignorant promises like you just have. A convicted felon engages officers in a high speed chase, those officers call for assistance to contain the criminal, which is again performing a criminal act and putting the general public in danger.

So go ahead Mr. Bigshot litigator, sue all you want. What are you going to do? Sell your food stamps to get money for the attorney or will you represent yourself?

I think he should go sleepy, sleepy…really quickly!

  • Guest228 says:

you can best believe that I will SUE the City Of Wilmington..I will have records brought forth in court as to which police cruisers drove over that box before I wrecked and left it my harms way..”good for the goose…

This is the most asinine conviction I have ever heard..NC is nothing but another Georgia except this black man isnt facing death row..

  • Commonsensenotcommontoday says:

It’s called “felony murder,” and it’s been around forever. If someone dies for any reason whatsoever and it is directly related to your commiting a felony, YOU are guilty of murder.

  • Charles Walters says:

You must be one of his dumba** family members who helped him sell his drugs. Just sit tight and the Police will get to you in a bit. They should have shot him when they got him stopped because I am sure he resisted arrest.

Life is rough, deal with it buttercup.

  • Guest28429 says:

I totally agree that this is the most asinine conviction ever!!! Had he been any other race these charges would have never seen the light of day. SMH

  • SurfCityTom says:

what does race have to do with it?

His appeal was heard. He recieved a split decision. One charge was voided out.

He has the right to appeal to a higher court.

I’m confident government bodies everywhere are quaking in their boots that you might sue them. The only question they may have will concern when you throw out the race card as a defense.

It is highly unlikely you would have any records to bring forth in your defense were you to be charged under similar circumstances.

Now the responding officers might have hysterics if they can identify you as Guest228 when they get to the scene.

Killing people is not God’s work, it’s the devil’s.

“The thief (the devil) comes only to STEAL, KILL and DESTROY; I (Jesus) have come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.”

The Bible also says, “Be sober (alert and self-controlled), be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour (kill/destroy)”.

Unfortunately, Anthony Pierce became the devil’s weapon of destruction that night. God allowed it to happen, but he didn’t take the officer’s life. Anthony Pierce did. Understand?

  • sadden says:

Why is he getting punished for GOD’S WORK. Every man born of a woman is sure to die. You never know when or where. It was just his time to be taken. So sadden that he rushed his time. Why not run over the box? If his tire(s)got popped; the county can afford to buy new tires. They are much cheaper than a funeral.

  • feedup says:

The police make their own rules they can cut their lights on to go thru a light or run up on your bumper to run your tag. I watched a police do this all the way down oleander And was well over the speed limit. WPD has no respect from me…..I don’t call them for nothing they are a joke. I think I will make a documentary on the WPD and their daily activities!!!!

  • Charles Walters says:

They are only a joke if you are a criminal. You sound like a criminal. Criminals are the ones who Bi*** and complain about law enforcment. They do have certain powers that the general public does not have, and to do their jobs they are granted those powers by the law makers in Raleigh and Washington D.C.. Get over yourself CRIMINAL because they are coming for your sorry a**.

  • Commonsensenotcommontoday says:

That will obviously require stealing a video camera and finding someone who can write at the level of an eighth grader.

  • CUPCAKES says:

justice is not EQUAL for the race.

  • guesty says:

It is not equal, it is slanted towards a black individual more than anything. The judges, lawyers, district attorneys and bailiffs all have to make sure they don’t so much as to give a perceived sideways look to a black defendant or out will come the race card.

Since you want to talk about equal, lets make everything equal. We can disband the naacp, the rainbow coalition, the united negro college fund, the black miss America pageant, black entertainment television, black shopping channel, affirmative action, image awards, black colleges.

When you are ready to abolish all of them, then come talk about fairness and racism.

  • Guest20 says:

You don’t understand because you don’t want to. You don’t sound ignorant to me, but you do sound like you’re more concerned about pointing fingers at the race card than anything else. You were probably raised to believe that way.

Oprah Winfrey once said, “I was raised to believe that excellence is the best deterrent to racism or sexism. And that’s how I operate my life.” She didn’t do too bad, now did she?

And Judith Jamison said, “We can go on talking about racism and who treated whom badly, but what are you going to do about it? Are you going to wallow in that or are you going to create your own agenda?”
She was the first African American woman to direct a major modern dance company. Not too shabby either, huh?

The “oh, poor pitiful me” mindset may work fine for obtaining food stamps or welfare, but it won’t work out in the real world, away from the projects.

When will justice “equal out”? Well, I don’t know when it will equal out, but it will start when African Americans realize they are just as prejudiced against whites as whites are against them. It will start when African Americans take responsibility for their actions and go out and get a job instead of expecting white taxpayers to take care of them. It will start when they quit having babies on taxpayers dimes and support their own children. And it will start when they realize that drugs and gangs are holding them back, and holding them down.

  • workforce says:

well i see more pregnant whites walking around and at the DSS waiting in line to sign up for food stamps and other federal assistance.
Maybe if you could recommend someone for a job they won’t have to be depending on your taxpayers money. My break is up; so let me get back to work. Thanks

  • Guest 10111 says:

You made some valid points;however, when you added the blanket statements you detracted from them. Generalization is old hat. Move forward!

  • Guest461 says:

It was a convicted felon, commiting ANOTHER felony by trying to RACE the police and escape! The best part about it is…the felon lost…AND got convicted…again!

Now, if that ain’t talkin’ about RACE, I dunno what is!!!

  • ILM NATIVE says:

are an idiot. Just because someone does not worship cops like you do does NOT mean they are a criminal. You are the type person who probably believes Leland PD is a fine upstanding group. You are a waste of time…..go back to watching cops with your bottle of hand lotion…
