WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW’s Gary Miller is still new to his job. Today he discussed his vision for the university and how to do more with less in such tough economic times.

Miller met with the media during a luncheon on campus. He discussed a range of topics from the future of the athletic program to expanding community partnerships. Miller says the biggest challenge he faces is adjusting to continued economic issues.

“We’re going to continue to work with our legislative partners to continue to encourage funding for higher education, and we’re going to be as innovative as we can on campus in the way we deliver our programs as we continue to push toward better quality,” Miller said.

Chancellor Miller says because of conflict surrounding the recent consolidation of the physics and geology departments the university is reevaluating the process of merging by including more faculty in the decisions.
