FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) — An 18-year-old high school student is scheduled to appear in a North Carolina courtroom in connection with the shooting of a 15-year-old fellow student who was wounded in the neck.

The 18-year-old will appear in court in Cumberland County on Tuesday after he and a 15-year-old suspect were apprehended in the shooting of Catilyn Abercrombie, who was standing in a breezeway outside the cafeteria at Cape Fear High School on Monday when she was shot. Abercrombie underwent surgery and was listed in stable condition.

Classes are scheduled to operate as usual at the high school and at a nearby middle school. Cumberland County Sheriff Earl “Moose” Butler said there will be additional deputies on hand to help students and parents feel confident about their safety.
