WILMINGTON,NC (UNCW news release) — Second-round leader Purdue posted a tournament-low 297 during the final round to claim the 10th annual Landfall Tradition by 14 strokes Sunday on the Country Club of Landfall’s Jack Nicklaus Course.
Making their seventh appearance in the event, the Boilermakers captured their first Tradition title with a three-round total of 904 (304-303-297). No. 3 Auburn placed second place with a 918 (297-312-309) tournament scorecard while No. 16 Ohio State (308-311-300=919) claimed third and South Carolina (307-314-301=922) took fourth.
First-round leader Paula Reto of Purdue carded a two-under-par 70 during the final round to return to the top of the leader board and capture individual medalist honors with a tournament result of two-over-par 218 (71-77-70).
Alejandra Cangrejo (75-76-70=221) of Duke and Victoria Trapani (72-73-76=221) of
Auburn, the tournament’s second-round leader, finished three shots back of Reto in a tie for second. Three players – Katie Burnett (76-76-72=224) of South Carolina and teammates Caroline Powers (73-77-74=224) and Lindsay Solberg (76-77-71=224) of Michigan State – ended the event in a tie for fourth.
For host UNCW, senior Sofia Hagsund carded a five-over-par 77 on Sunday to earn a share of 13th place with a three-round total of 229 (76-76-77). Sophomores Laverry Kumar (79-80-83=242/T-71st), Lori Beth Adams (82-80-83=245/T-77th) and Jeanne Metivier (86-83-89=258/86th) and senior Alei Mitchell (85-90-85=260 /87th) rounded the Seahawks entry, which ended the event in 18th place with a 969 (322-319-328) tournament scorecard.

Purdue posted a team total 303 on Saturday to erase a seven-stroke deficit and take over first place during the second round of the 10th annual Landfall Tradition on the Country Club of Landfall’s Jack Nicklaus Course.
The Boilermakers (304-303=607) will enter the final round with a two-shot advantage over first-round leader Auburn (297-312=609) after the No. 3 ranked Tigers combined for a 312 team total on Saturday.
No. 12 Duke (314-303=617) sits 10 shots back of Purdue in third after jumping up eight spots on Saturday with a 303 that matched the Boilermakers for the low team round of the day. No. 4 UNC Chapel Hill (306-313=619) and No. 16 Ohio State (308-311=619) are two shots back of the Blue Devils in a tie for fourth.
Auburn’s Victoria Trapani carded a one-over 73 on Saturday to overtake first-round leader Paula Reto of Purdue with a 36-hole total of one-over-par 145 (72-73). Reto posted a four-over 75 during the second round to drop into second at four-over (71-75=146) while teammate Laura Gonzalez matched Trapani for individual low-round honors with a 73 on Saturday to move into third at five-over (76-73=149). Four players are five shots back of Trapani in a tie for fourth at six-over.
For the host Seahawks, senior Sofia Hagsund recorded her second straight four-over-par 76 on Saturday to put herself in a four-way tie for ninth at eight-over (76-76=152). Sophomores Laverry Kumar (79-80=159/t-50th) and Lori Beth Adams (82-80=162/T-67th) both finished the day at eight-over par while sophomore Jeanne Metivier (86-83=169/86th) and senior Alei Mitchell (85-90=175/88th) completed the Seahawks entry.
UNCW (322-319=641) combined for a team total 319 on Saturday and finds itself in 18th place heading into Sunday’s final round, four shots back of Chattanooga (309-328) and five shots back of Northwestern (320-316=636) and Mississippi (315-321=636).
Final round action in the 2011 Landfall Tradition is scheduled to begin Sunday at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.

Playing under cool, overcast conditions on the par 72, 6,208 yard layout, the Tigers posted a nine-over-par total on the first 18 holes to create a seven-shot gap over second-place Purdue (304). No. 4 UNC Chapel Hill (306) and Notre Dame (306) are two shots behind the Boilermakers in a tie for third while South Carolina (307) occupies fifth place.
Purdue’s Paula Reto sits atop the individual leaderboard after recording the only sub-par round on Friday, a one-under 71, to hold a one-shot edge over Auburn’s Victoria Trapini (72). Three players – Marion Duvernay of Chattanooga, Caroline Powers of Michigan State and Carlie Yadloczky of Auburn – are two shots back of Reto in third with a one-over scorecard.
For host UNCW, senior Sofia Hagsund carded a four-over-par 76 and is part of a tie for 13th place, while sophomore Laverry Kumar is three shots back of Hagsund in a tie for 47th after an opening round 79. Sophomore Lori Beth Adams (82/T-69th), senior Alei Mitchell (85/T-82nd) and sophomore Jeanne Metivier (86/T-85th) completed the scoring for the Seahawks, who stand 18th overall after shooting an opening-round team total of 322.
