STATE COLLEGE, PA (AP) — Penn State administrators have canceled Joe Paterno’s weekly news conference in which he was expected to field questions about a sex abuse scandal involving a former assistant coach.

Paterno’s son Scott tells The Associated Press on Tuesday that the decision was made by President Graham Spanier’s office.

Scott Paterno says his father was disappointed and was prepared to take questions about the scandal as well as the upcoming game against Nebraska.

report Coach Paterno could be gone as soon as Sunday. Truly Sad. The accused Coach was not on staff, had retired from Penn State, at the time Coach Paterno was made aware of the allegations. He reported it to the AD. What more should he have done? And let’s remember, he was 77 or so at the time he became aware.

Similar in some respects to Lefty Driesel who was forced out at Maryland after the drug overdose of Len Bias; who had completed his eligibility and been darfted by the Celtics and signed a multi-million dollar contract with one of the shoe manufacturers. He was in Boston at the time of his demise. Yet Driesel walked the plank.

Where does a Head Coach’s responsibility end?

He should have gone to the police over it. Then, there was nothing else he could of done.

That may be true but they were allowing this pedophile to use athletic department facilities up to last week. ESPN is all over it. As it was reported, Paterno did nothing illegal, He just did nothing. But, He was not the only one. That is not right. This had been going on for years? Reports say the coach and administration knew about this 10 years ago and this man stayed on staff. This bunch was just waiting for the bomb to go off and hope for just collateral Damage. Sick!!!

Paterno has long been the most powerful man on Penn State’s campus. If Paterno wanted the claim investigated, he could have made an investigation happen. He didn’t.

Paterno has won 409 games. He has helped usher thousands of young men into adulthood. But if Paterno’s inaction allowed a monster to continue preying on children, those victories don’t mean a thing.
