WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — At 11 a.m., the same hour of the cease fire that ended World War I, UNC Wilmington honored those who have fought for the United States through the years.

The ceremony at the Commons Amphitheatre on campus featured Lt. Col. Nicholas Davis of the Wounded Warrior Battalion as the keynote speaker.

Students also got together and discussed how the sacrifice of soldiers has impacted them.

“Today means something different than it has in the past for me,” said UNCW student and US Army Sgt. Jason Thigpen, who recently received the Purple Heart. “And also remembering our veterans and soldiers here. It’s not just the ones overseas. The ones here, I think, the battle is just as tough here as it is anywhere else overseas.”

Many veterans, young and old attended the ceremony.
