ELIZABETHTOWN,NC (WWAY) — For the last three years C.J. Melvin dominated the hardwood at East Bladen High School. She led the Eagles to the state title game in girls high school basketball three years in a row. In fact Melvin was named the top female athlete in North Carolina by the state high school athletic association.
Things turned south though for C.J. Melvin this summer in Greenville. The school record holder at East Bladen was scheduled to play college basketball at East Carolina this season. She dropped out of ECU a few months ago though, shortly after she filed a false police report that involved an alleged assault on the ECU campus. On Tuesday C.J. Melvin told WWAY she’d like to have a second chance in Greenville. She’s like to join the team for the 2012-2013 season. “I plan to go to East Carolina next year when I’m in better shape and more prepared,” Melvin said. “I’m not a quitter. I’m not afraid and I want to continue to play basketball. I want to have accolades in college basketball as well. Things didn’t work out for me in Greenville as I planned, but God was with me. He knows what happened and I don’t want anyone to look at me any differently because I’m not there this year.”
