CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) — A deal to give Bank of America exclusive rights to all automated teller machines at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport is expected to provide the airport with $1.6 million in annual revenue, more than twice what it now makes.

The Charlotte Observer reported that the Charlotte City Council approved the three-year deal with the bank Monday night. It takes effect in January.

The change gives travelers fewer ways to get cash without a fee. Four banks now have ATMs at the airport — Bank of America, Wells Fargo, BB&T and First Citizens. They pay rent for each location and a percentage of total receipts.

Aviation director Jerry Orr says Bank of America handles about 70 percent of ATM transaction at the airport. Other airports also have exclusive deals with banks.
