PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — After weeks of controversy about the suspension of Topsail High School’s principal, the school district announced today Marcus Skipper will return to work after Thanksgiving.

Skipper and interim Pender County Schools Superintendent Rachel Manning issued a joint statement today addressing what they called “a lot of concern and speculation by parents and the media.”

In the statement, Manning and Skipper explained that Skipper was suspended after “he acted in an inappropriate and insubordinate manner” in a meeting with Manning October 24. According to the statement “Skipper has acknowledged his inappropriate behavior, has apologized to Ms. Manning, and has indicated that there will be no similar incidents in the future.”

Manning suspended Skipper without pay retroactive to October 25 and through Wednesday, which is the last day of school before Thanksgiving Break, and that Skipper accepted the suspension, according to the statement. He will return to work Monday, November 28.
