GASTONIA, NC (AP) — Everyone in the South knows it’s not easy to get rid of creeping Kudzu vines.

The city of Gastonia hopes goats will provide the answer.

The Gaston Gazette reported city engineer Rusty Bost said a number of governments have started using goats to tackle the vines. Cutting the vines can be expensive and sometimes is ineffective.

The vines can impede water flow and wrap around guardrails beside roads.

Bost says frost killed much of the kudzu in Gastonia two weeks ago. But he says the animals will probably be used in the spring.
