CHAPEL HILL, NC (AP) — A protest is planned at the Chapel Hill Town Council meeting of the city’s response to an earlier occupation event in a vacant downtown building.

Some people affiliated with Occupy Chapel Hill planned a march and rally at Monday’s council meeting.

The group is upset that police in special tactics gear with guns drawn responded to the Nov. 13 occupation of an old car dealership. Seven people were charged with breaking and entering.

Jim Neal of Chapel Hill wants to know how officers communicated with those occupying the building and what led officers to think the protesters were violent.

Neal also wants to know if officers were authorized to use lethal force.

Police Chief Chris Blue says officers didn’t know what the situation was when they entered the building.
