WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The day after Thanksgiving is considered one of the busiest shopping days of the year. A lot of bargain hunters in Wilmington lined up hours in advance to stand in line for stores that open once the clock strikes midnight or even Thursday night for Black Friday.

Americans love bargains and Wilmington residents certainly know a good deal when they see it, but sometimes that requires standing in line for hours. Tammy Mitchell got to the Wilmington Target at noon on Thursday. She was first in line by a two-hour margin.

“I’ve never been first in line for anything before,” Mitchell said. “I wanted to be first this year, because I lost out last year.”

The line was even longer at the Wilmington Best Buy on Thanksgiving night. Tracy Johnson was first in line.

“I got in line around 8:30 on Wednesday night,” Johnson said. “It’s going to be worth it, though, because we’re going to get a 42-inch television for $199.”

Customers in line at Best Buy were treated to a free “Harry Potter” movie in the parking lot Thursday night as well.
