WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– Downtown Wilmington was glimmering with Christmas lights tonight as the annual Holiday Parade rolled through the city.

The parade began on N. Front Street, turned on Orange, and came back up Water Street.

The event featured marching bands, dogs in costume, and plenty of Christmas spirit.

Even people from out of town enjoyed the parade.

“Awesome parade,” said New Jersey native George Sotomayor. “Lot of marching bands, pretty girls just went by.”

The Wilmington Holiday Parade is in its 9th year.

  • Holichristmas says:

Get over it holiday, Christmas, whatever….

  • Guest12347 says:

Get over it… well it is Christmas – Its not holiday season, holiday lights or holiday parade – ITS CHRISTMAS… people dont want it to be Christmas because of the name – thats ALL it boils down to – CHRISTmas… It has Christ in it – The REASON we have this season, to celebrate HIS birth.. This country was founded on religion, Bible, morals, principls. Somehow this country has forgotten all of it because of the same attitude you have, get over it, whatever, taking out Christ name.

  • Guest20 says:

If Christians were as vocal (and as committed) as unbelievers, we wouldn’t even be having this discussion.

  • you da man says:

this country was founded on religious persecution

ironic we are still having this conversation……

CHRISTmas. EASTer both have fantasy characters

  • Guest12347 says:

they have fantasy figures because the world did that, non christians. People dont want to believe that there is a God so they take the 2 Holiday’s and turn them into secular icon. They just cant celebrate the true reason of both seasons, so lets bring in an Bunny and Santa…

  • Guest12347 says:

We are vocal – just some people dont want to take that “stand” and by people, I am talking Polical, Government, Hollywood, Leaders. Our own President wont acknowlege God. The USA has turned their backs on Him and how much longer is He going to show mercy?

  • Guest12347 says:

But yet the article says Christmas lights… HUM????? But cant say Christmas Parade… The City should be ashamed!

  • anne says:

Political correctness gone amok!!!!!!!! Let’s dare not call it a Christmas parade because we might offend some of the people out there, but who cares if we offend those that would like it to say Christmas? Who cares if we offend the Christians out there, but let’s not dare offend the heathens, the Muslims or the atheists!!!

What a bunch of fools running the city. Bet if the gayers want to march it would be called the gay parade and if the muslims wanted to march it would be the muslim parade. Idiots, all of you!!!

  • William Walton says:

Thanks for your post. You gave me a great idea. I think next year I will make certain that a gay organization marches in the holiday parade. Then, we’ll separate those in attendance who have true Christian spirit from those who hijack religion as a way to be divisive.

Get over yourself. If there was a parade that was strictly Jewish or Muslim or (insert any other group) taking place during this time of year you would probably say that it was inappropriate.

Saying “Happy Holidays” does in no way infringe on your Christian or homophobic ignorance. All it does is allow people to be all inclusive and respectful of everyone. Something you obviously don’t want.

There is nothing wrong with including other groups who are also celebrating holidays during this time as a way to come together. In fact, we should ALL be coming together at this time (even those who don’t believe in religion) as a way of saying GOOD WILL TO ALL MEN (and women).

Who put on the parade? It wasn’t paid for by Church money, but by tax dollars which I’m sorry to break your bubble of existence includes ALL WALKS OF LIFE.

  • bowel full of jelly says:

The status quo has traditionally been one of privileging Christians at the expense of other religions or no religion — and since that privileging has persisted for so long, too many Christians have come to expect it as their right.

    times are changing.

    the effort put into complaining
over holiday vs. christmas parade could have been used for good.

also are Santa and elves religious?
    secular? or material……. ?

    Happy Holidays

  • Das Weibstück says:

Santa isn’t real but neither is god so it kinda balances it all out.

  • Guest1234 says:

Hmmm. Wonder where we get the word “Holiday”.Bet if you research that you will be mad… Holiday= Holy Days (Sorry to mess up your anti-Christmas rant).

  • Guest20 says:

Nobody talks so constantly about God as those who insist that there is no God.

  • Guest55555 says:

“God is dead not because He doesn’t exist, but because we live, play, procreate, govern, and die as though He doesn’t.” –Chuck Colson

  • Das Weibstück says:

I never talk about god unless I am on here reading comments that mention the subject. The religious fanatics comments are so ludicrous I cant help myself.

  • Guest12347 says:

Wow.. such bold words… when the world comes to an end. Think of the words you just said God is dead as your screaming in a lake of fire. Are you willing and so bold to take that chance and not just have faith that there is a God.

  • Guest55555 says:

You misunderstood my post, my friend. I’m also a Christian. My post was saying that God is dead in the hearts of those who chose not to believe in Him, not because he doesn’t exist. Does that help to clarify? God Bless.

  • Guest20 says:

It seems to me that your comments are just as ludicrous on the opposite end. Why can’t you just live and let live?

Belief in their God isn’t hurting you in any way. There’s so much lack of peace in the world, can’t you focus on something more worthy of your attention? It’s religious intolerance, and it’s beneath you.

  • Guest1234 says:

You got the name wrong…It’s the Christmas Parade

  • Kevin Wuzzardo says:

Thanks for your comment, but the City of Wilmington officially calls it the Holiday Parade.
