ONLY ON 3: Murder suspect's ex-fiancee regrets dropping charges

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Castle Hayne man accused of murdering his wife sits in the New Hanover County Jail. The arrest of Keith Waters shocked one woman, but it didn't surprise her. She, too, has a violent history with Waters and feared something like this would happen. She's still scared and doesn't want her name revealed.

"It is a shame," said the woman we'll call "Jane." "It is such a shame that someone had to die."

Guilt. Remorse. Sadness. That's what Jane is going through right now. She was engaged to Keith Waters many years ago. It was a relationship that often turned violent.

"I've put all this behind me and totally just pretended like it never happened till I got that phone call last night, and then it come rushing back, and then I began to feel horrible, because I don't want them to let him out," she said.

Jane says there's no doubt waters has some mental issues, as well as problems with drugs and alcohol, but at the same time, he's also a good actor.

"He knows how to play the part. He knows how to play the game," Jane said. "He's been through so many rehabs he knows how to answer all the questions, and he can look you in the eye and make you believe him, because that's just how charming he can be."

Jane left Waters, but she kept going back to him. She filed restraining orders, but later dropped him. She says when he threatened to kill her, she finally left for good.

"Believe me, I got away with my life. I got away with my life, and I couldn't care less about him. I was just thankful I got away, but I'm just sorry that Kay didn't," Jane said.

Now, Jane is troubled that she did not do more to stop him. That is why she's coming forward now.

"Don't let him fool you. Don't let him fool them please, please. He'll just do it again and destroy someone else's life. That's the only reason I want to say something," she said.

Jane says she knows of two other women Waters abused. She plans to call the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office to share her story with investigators.

We reached out to Waters in jail today, but he did not want to speak with us.

There is no question this

There is no question this man is sick but also responsible for his actions. There will be a trial in a court of law for what he has been accused of doing - not what an old girlfriend wants to tell now. I sincerely hope WWAY3 'news' is reporting news that has been verified to be accurate on the part of this 'Jane'. Restraining orders can be verified and there should be a police record of abuse that escalated to the extent claimed in this report. There is much shame to be shared in this sad story.

Oh my, how about learning to

Oh my, how about learning to edit before publishing:

..."She filed restraining orders, but later dropped him."...

>>>Oh my, how about learning to edit before publishing:

You really should have ended your sentence with a question mark and not a colon.

Glad your water is fine though. If it gets bad try some depends

"never had any mebtal issues"

Isn't it embarrassing when you fail to take your own advice?

Keith Waters is responsible

Keith Waters is responsible for his own actions. No one else is to blame and no one else should carry any guilt for the actions of another.
