WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Traffic was blocked at 5th and Meares Streets in Wilmington this morning as firefighters battled a house fire.

The Wilmington Fire Department says it took about half an hour to bring the fire at 1019 S. 5th Street under control. Firefighters got the call just before 8 a.m.

WFD says the people who live in the house got out safely, and there are no reports of injuries.

Investigators determined the fire was an accident. They are still working to figure out the cause. Crews contained damage to the upstairs, but there is smoke damage throughout the house.
