WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — The victim of a break-in that was reported Sunday afternoon is offering up to $10,000 for information leading to the recovery of a rare gold necklace and / or the large quantity of heirloom silverware that was stolen. These items have sentimental value for the victim.

Here is the case summary that was released yesterday:
Case#: 2011-050377
Time: reported at 2:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon
Location: 100 block Martingale Lane
Offense: Breaking and Entering/ Larceny

Summary: Residents returned from out of town on Sunday afternoon and discovered that their house had been broken into and many items were stolen. The preliminary investigation indicates that the intruder(s) entered the house by breaking a glass panel in a side door. A large quantity of silverware and several pieces of jewelry were stolen. The case is under investigation.

    have become pretty creative.

    They actually carry a portable smelting device in the back of a van; and within minutes, the silver or gold is melted down, while they drive, into ingots. Hard to trace that; and with the upswing in precious metal prices, they have a much easier time disposing of the ill gotten gains.
