WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A new flock of Seahawks turned their tassels and soared toward their destiny Saturday.

More than 1,000 students earned a diploma from UNC Wilmington at the fall commencement ceremonies.

“I’m very excited,” now-alumni Wes King said. “I know myself, as well as a lot of people here, have overcome either tremendous hardships or a lot of challenges to reach this point, so it’s really exciting to be able to reach this point, to culminate to this point.”

King earned an English degree with a focus in professional writing. Graduates were encouraged to pursue their passions and make a mark on the world; something King plans on doing.

He says he’s confident in his education and knows the value of higher learning. He’s got big goals and plans to graduate from law school and hopefully start his own business right here in the Port City.
