HENDERSONVILLE, NC (AP) — Henderson County commissioners have told the county sheriff he has until the end of the work week to either return to his job or request a formal leave of absence to deal with his mental health condition.
The Times-News of Hendersonville reports the commission sent a letter to Sheriff Rick Davis last week saying if he doesn’t make a decision by noon Friday, they will consider his actions a refusal to perform the duties of sheriff. That is one of the reasons a judge can remove a sheriff from office in North Carolina.
Davis left his job on Nov. 23, saying he was taking sick time to undergo treatment for a diagnosis of manic bipolar disorder. Since then, he has refused to talk to commissioners about his private life.
