COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Another longtime member of the General Assembly is getting out of politics.

Rep. Dewey Hill, who represents Brunswick and Columbus Counties, will finish his tenth term next year, but will not run again. After spending 20 years in Raleigh, Hill says it’s time for someone else to bring some new ideas to the table.

During his tenure he sponsored or introduced 62 bills. Hill says he’s proud of what’s he’s accomplished while in office.

“I think as chair of the House Agriculture Committee for a number of years and vice chair of the Finance Committee, I think I’ve been able to accomplish right much for this district and this state,” Rep. Hill said. “So I think it’s time for dewey hill to move on to another industry right now.”

That other industry will be his grocery store chain and developing company, Hillcrest Corporation. Both are expanding, so Hill wants to focus his attention on that.

SufyCityTom, please get a job. You are an uninformed “know-it-all” with ignorance dripping from your pen and mouth.

Contrary to your insinuation, Dewey Hill did not vote on the federal budget or “borrowed federal dollars. Bush killed the budget, which was balanced by Clinton before Bush took over.

Your man “Bush” started 2 wars, Medicaid D, and the Wall Street bailout — all of which busted the budget. The only thing worse than Bush is Obama.

and Good Luck.

Despite some recent votes with the Republican majority, which had no impact on the outcome, for the most part Representative Hill was a staunch supporter of the Easley and Perdue administrations. Those Governors knew they had his vote when it counted.

Hopefully, his replacement will listen to the taxpayers and help stem the economic hemoraging caused by all of the give away program spending with borrowed federal dollars. The repayment of those dollars began this fiscal year; and will continue for quite a few more.

Well, to my knowledge Leonard does quite well with numbers and balancing the budget of the town. However, we know he has his areas of un-expertise, as well. I realize it may be someone’s wish to keep the good ole boy system strong–knowing that Leonard has the gift of keeping the machines in town happy, but is this what we want? I would have to have more information about his track record, not only with numbers- but managing the law enforcement, being fair to the public (not just taking care of the machines), growth of the community he has represented, drug activity in the areas which he represents, recreations in the community, and how he has handled complaints from the public along with problems in the community.

Hill is a decent man but he is controlled by RC Soles. Now, RC Soles is pushing Tabor City Town Manager, Al Leonard, to replace Hill in the NC House.

As you recall, RC Soles usually called Al Leonard (on the private cell phone) when RC’s little boys got too rowdy while RC was trying to “get it done”. Soles did not call the police, instead Soles called his lackey, Al Leonard. Now, Soles is backing and pushing Leonard for the House. He is trying to get Hill to endorse.

The other candidate, Ken Waddell, is a hog farmer and part-time Chadbourn mayor. He sounds like fun. He was recently being driven by his town manager when they were caught for “speeding”. Waddell apparently “aided and abetted” while his town manager flashed a badge and tried to impersonate a police office while trying to get ’em out of high speed ticket. Why wasn’t the mayor indicted along with the town manager? What a bunch!

Dewey, you haven’t had a new idea in the 20 years you’ve been in the House. Tax & Spend is not a new idea.
