WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An overnight shooting in downtown Wilmington has police looking for answers. Shots rang out at an event at the Brooklyn Arts Center around 1 a.m. Despite the large crowd no one was hit.

The Brooklyn Arts Center on the corner of 4th and Campbell Streets holds all kinds of events, like concerts, weddings and other private parties. But a Christmas night party was cut short early Monday morning when someone fired a gun.

“We were so close we could hear the barrel cock,’ said a witness, who does not want to be identified. He was on his way inside when the shots rang out. “Bow bow! That was it. I saw all the fire coming out the barrel.”

He says he heard people arguing moments before the shooting.

“The dude doing the shooting did not care at all,” he said. “No mask, no nothing. He was shootings toward the people who were standing in line.”

Wilmington Police arrived at the Brooklyn Arts Center around 1:30 a.m. Investigators say one shot was fired inside the building. They found several bullet casings outside.

Police say no one was hit during the shooting. That’s a big surprise to this witness.

“I was seriously shocked,” the witness said. “I was like, ‘Nobody got shot? Nobody got hit with none of the bullets?'”

The group that put on the party, Black Barbie Entertainment, had no comment Monday. But on the event’s Facebook page, the group did acknowledge the shooting saying, “Thanks to evryone (sic) who came out last night…..I am soooo happy no one was harmed in last nights (sic) incidents.”

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Wilmington Police Department at (910) 343-3600. Or you can anonymously text a tip. Just text TIP708 and your message to CRIMES (274637)

Most are criminals. If they want to act like animals, then they need to be confined somewhere. In their own homes during certain hours would be a start.

327, have you been drinking “guesty’s” KoolAid? Be careful if you do. One of the side effects of drinking too much of it is that you will be afflicted with compound ailments, specifically diarrhea of the mouth and constipation of the mind.

Treat people like criminals and they will act like criminals. A wise man once said it is better for 10 guilty men to go free than imprison 1 innocent man.

Anything going on in that area at that time of morning has to be bad news. I have never been an advocate of curfews, but I am beginning to think that a curfew might be the only way to reign in certain members of society and stop some of this primitive behavior.

Where is the public outcry for this place to be shut down, if this were to happen outside of a bar in Wilmington, people would be(rightly so) calling for the closing of the establishment. Since this place has a liqour licensce, they should be held to the same standards as any other ABC permitee. Hold the establishment accountable for the “people” they choose to rent their building out to. But I’m sure nothing will come of this, since the city threw money at Brookly arts center, and want it to continue to operate to justify the laundering of the money.

This event went off without any problems for four hours then two fools out of several hundred people decided to ruin if for everybody. It should show the city of Wilmington that this could happen anywhere and to any establishment. Its the people and not the business.
