WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Despite another round of tuition hikes likely on the horizon, the University of North Carolina Wilmington and several other UNC System school have made Kiplinger’s list of “Best Values in Public Colleges.”

UNC Chapel Hill tops the list of best values for in-state students. UNCW is the second highest ranked UNC system school at 15th, followed by NC State (19), Appalachian State (33), UNC School of the Arts (41) and UNC Asheville (45).

UNCW ranked 21st for best value for out-of-state students. UNC Chapel Hill also topped that list.

This year Kiplinger retooled the rankings to give more weight to criteria it considers crucial to academic value, including the percentage of students who return for sophomore year and the four-year graduation rate. Kiplinger says each category measures a college’s ability to keep students engaged and on track for graduation.

This marks the 11th straight time UNC Chapel Hill has topped the Best Value list.
