WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Baby, it’s cold outside!

Folks in the Cape Fear area got a rude awakening when they stepped outside this morning. The freezing temperatures and gusty winds made for a bad combination.

Folks who had to be outside to get to work or school seemed to pick up their pace a little bit.

Needless to say, there were not too many folks walking along the riverfront in downtown Wilmington this morning. Some say the weather is a reminder that it is still winter.

“Oh, a real shock to the system, because December was just mild, and all of a sudden, whoosh! Right on time like a curtain falling, January comes, and it’s payback time,” Lew Musser of Wilmington said.

Many say they cannot wait for the mild temperatures of last month to make their way back to our area.
