WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A medical examiner has confirmed the discovery of a body buried in a yard off Cowan Street as Latricia Ana Scott. Now the murder victim’s family is speaking out.

“I had a bad feeling that something happened to my daughter because she’ll never not call. She’ll call me,” said Linda Scott, Latricia’s mother.

Tuesday night 24-year-old Latricia did not return home from her class at Cape Fear Community College. Sensing something was wrong, Linda Scott called police the next day.

Latricia’s family members say they heard on the streets that she had been spending time with 55-year-old Andrew Bernard Adams. According to police, Adams has a criminal record that dates back decades, including rape, assault and trying to escape from jail.

“He started popping up at my sister’s school and coming around her house,” said Latricia’s sister, Shanita Bullock. “I caught him peeking in my window Christmas night and I went up stairs and I told my daddy.”

Latricia’s family also says that they heard Adams was waiting on her at CFCC when her class ended Tuesday. After that they argued all the way back to her house where neighbors say they heard a scream.

“I’m wondering why nobody could call the police or something,” said Jacqueline Mckoy, Latricia’s cousin. “I mean everybody knows this child. This child has never messed with nobody, and I mean nobody.”

Latricia’s family says they knew of Adams and that he was a registered sex offender but say what happened is worse than they could have ever imagined.

Friday, Wilmington Police found Latricia’s body buried in Adams’ yard. The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.

“That’s my daughter, I’m going to miss her,” said Linda Scott. “I cry every night and I cry every day but I want that man punished. I don’t want him to walk the streets no more. He’ll do somebody else’s child like that.”

Neighbors say parts of her body were buried in different sections of the yard.

Latricia’s famly says they suspected Adams from the beginning and even had a phone conversation with him.

“He said he had some work to do and clean up the back yard,” said Linda Scott.

Adams was arrested Friday night after a standoff with Wilmington Police and charged with first degree murder in Latricia’s death.

Latricia Scott is survived by her two children.

It’s a travesty how someone could do such a thing to a young woman or any person for that matter. Where the killers views are so cloudy that he or she would consider such drastic measures and then to follow through with them, Man this “man” must be in a dark place and from my soap box I am standing on, he needs to stay there. My condolences go out to Latricias’ children and family. Their isn’t anything that I can say that will ease your pain; but I Pray that GOD gives you the strength in which you will need to endure this mind boggling disaster. GOD BLESS YOU ALL. And may the punishment fit the crime!!!!!!

North Carolina is failing at one of it’s most basic functions, protecting society by imprisoning dangerous criminals. With his record, this maggot should never have been allowed out on the street ever again. As for overcrowding, if we’d get back to putting downb the sick dogs, there will be room for the next one.

Also, to every family out there, the DOC website is available to everyone. Take the time to check it, and for God’s sake, don’t let your children run around with pure filth like this guy.

This guy won’t get the needle cause politicians who helped ensure he got back on the street have passed a law that will all but make sure he lives to old age.

why waste the taxpayers money, and time on a trial. just give him the needle,or life without parole. a trial is a waste of time. the family has suffered enough.

He has proven he lacks the ability to live in a civil society so if he could get the needle, it would serve the general public well.

Some trash just can’t be fixed.

If a 24 year old is being pursued by a 55 year old, that’s the first sign that something is wrong. If he follows her to school, that’s a 2nd sign. If the 55 year old has a criminal history, that’s a 3rd sign. If he’s peeping in windows, that’s a 4th sign.

Wake up, ladies! This kind of thing doesn’t happen out of the blue. There are always signs before a tragedy. Don’t become a victim. Open your eyes and be empowered. At least learn something from this young girl’s tragedy so her death won’t have been for nothing.

When i heard about this i was shock in disbelief that this monster was able to slip between the cracks.I can’t believe that he was release from prison as early as he did with his criminal records.I believe their are other victims out there beside the two murders that was discover. This man is a sick sick individual who should have not been released from prison.I am so so sorry for what happen to those women and i believe this should never ever have happen. One of the most sadest thing is that Latricia Scott’s children will never see their mother again because of this evil devilies person. He should never see the light of day again.

I think that somebody needs to talk to the ladies out there too. Maybe get away from scumbags.. Seems like these ladies stay and bad things happen, maybe they aren’t smart enough to run (my sister has two masters and is one of the dumbest in this area I have ever seen).

If ever the death penalty is called for, this case screams out for it.

That man is a monster and shouldn’t be allowed to ever walk among decent people again.

My sincere sympathy goes out to this young lady’s family. I can’t imagine the horror she went through and the pain this family has to endure. I really am heartbroken for all of them.

I hope people realize our judicial and legal system let this monster back out on our streets for society to deal with. This should never have been allowed to happen.

This made me so sick when I heard it. How can a family just sit by an knowing this monster is going out to there daughter school and not even notifiy the police of what’s going on. Its hard to even believe that he even looked in to there window and the father up stairs did do nothing. In that criminal mind he thought that the family had to be ignorant! This is sad so when some1 is stalking u or coming around and he or she is not wanted let someone know when it starts before its 2 late!

I wish the most sincere condolances to Latricia Ana Scott’s family and friends. It’s just a tragedy that someone so early in life can be taken away, and by a felon who should never have been able to get within striking distance of his victim. This great nation needs to find a way to stop the violence. Incarcerations need to be longer. Past offenders need closer scrutiny and control. The public deserves protection. Criminals have no rights, they lost their rights when they chose to harm others. Latricia Ana Scott’s killer must never be free to harm anyone else again. The Scott family will be living their loss every day for the rest of their lives. It’s not the way life should be.

This story has been poorly reported from the start. Why hasn’t his criminal history been checked by a news agency and published?

The public DOC website shows:

4 Convictions of Attempted Rape
1 Conviction of Rape
1 Conviction of Assault Inflicting Serious Injury
1 Conviction of Escaping

Those are just the convictions included on the website, and for some reason the initial conviction of “Rape 1st Degree” that shows as happening in 1973 on the top under ” Most Recent Incarceration Summary” is not included on the site. What else is missing?

Who knows how many times he was arrested and the charges dropped. Or how many women he attacked but was not reported. And one of the murders he has just been charged with is from the 70s. Who knows how many other women he has raped and murdered. If you read on there you see that he spent 36 years in prison and is 55. First going to prison when he was 17!!!!

I think the news agencies need to do a better job telling the public about this monster. And finding out why he was roaming Wilmington’s streets instead of serving eternity in prison.

Thanks for your comment. We actually did report his criminal history as soon as we knew who he was. It was posted in an earlier story:
