CHARLOTTE, NC (WSOC) — President Barack Obama will speak at Bank of America stadium during the 2012 Democratic National Convention in September, planning members of the convention said Tuesday.

DNC committee officials said Obama will take the stage at the stadium on the last day of the convention to accept the nomination of the Democratic Party. Tickets for the event will be free.

According to officials, holding the event at the larger venue will help organizers achieve their vision of an open, accessible convention, officials said.

However, political expert Dr. Michael Bitzer said the move could come at a notable cost for the president. “The stigma that is attached to Bank of America and the issues of the economy really are going to step on any kind of message that he wants to get out,” he said.

Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, the DNC chairwoman, said the name on the building would not matter because it was a free event and Obama had a record of fighting for changes in the financial sector on Wall Street.

Officials also said the convention program would be shortened from the traditional four days to three. DNC Committee CEO Steve Kerrigan said the convention will be shortened to “make room for a day to organize and celebrate the Carolinas, Virginia and the South” with a convention kickoff at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Labor Day.

What grieves “us” people is that your Big Zero hasn’t come through with his promises.

Where are the jobs? My son hasn’t found work in over a year. The economy is horrible, social security will be non-existent for my kids, and gas prices will go sky high this summer. Health care for all? That’s a joke; who can afford health care…unless you’re part of the Medicaid system and you’re milking taypayers to pay your bills for you? The war? Yeah right. Iran and Afganistan respect us about as much as Korea and Vietnam did when we left those countries. Where’s the no income tax for seniors over 55 that he promised before he was elected?

Take your blinders off and maybe you’ll see Big Zero for what he is…just another lying politician who will promise you the moon to get elected and then can’t remember sh*t once he gets in office.

What grevies you people is you can’t stand that North Carolina is hosting the DNC National Convention and the excitement will be times 74,000 when Americas best President accepts what will be 4 more years to provide jobs, grow the economy, save medicare and medicaid, the banks, and our auto industry. Protect the environment while developing alternate energy, provide education and health care for all. Lets also not forget He, Big O got Little O, got us out of War and got us respected again in the world.
While you guys are sitting around Hardees having a cup of senior coffee and putting the blame for the defict on Big O,
just keep in mind that our days are gone compared to the millions of poor and middle class young people that deserve as much as we have had. It takes a village!!

While we got “O” and 74,000 of our brothers and sisters together we should march up to Raleigh and escort the Republicans to the Virginia border and then we restore this state to it’s greatness!!

Tired of it Citizen

Sherman’s total war essentially ended as he crossed into NC somewhere in the vicinity of Fayetteville. There were limited skirmishes, such as Bentonville, but war crimes against civilians, with some rear action exceptions, all but stopped. Georgia and SC suffered difficult fates as they were the two states that mostly instigated succession. Sherman’s attitude toward NC and its citizens was so humane that the commander of NC’s forces, Joseph E. Johnston, felt such gratitude and awe toward him that Johnston remained life long friends with Sherman and served as a casket-bearer at his funeral. Unfortunately for Johnston, this decision cost him his life as he was old and the weather wasn’t pleasant. A lot of ignorant transplants have this notion that Sherman hated the South. He did not. He loved the South and loved Southerners. He lived here for many years and was the President of what is now LSU. Several of his closest advisers in the Union army where some men from Alabama. But what he loved more than the South was the Union. By the way, the Anaconda Plan, Winfield Scott’s brainchild, won the war, not Sherman’s March to the Sea.

Did you used to be a rather prolific poster on the StarNews boards several years ago? You remind me of someone who was there all the time until one day they made a rather braggadocious bet, with a $100 wager, against another member and when proven wrong, they never came back.

What a waste of money and resources; not to mention the waste of taxpayer money for security. It’s a disgrace to the Carolina Panthers as well.

I hope all weather forecasts call for a bright and sunny day. Then when chuckles starts his babbling, let the rain downpour begin.

I knew it would get someones shorts in a knot.
BTW I’m a native North Carolinian (5 generations)so impress someone else with your 6th grade history recital. Last I looked our local fish wrapper utilizes a Facebook comment bar not a forum. I’m not on Facebook either. However I did use to hang out in the AOL Wilmington chatroom about 20 years ago.

Didn’t the DNC contact Jerry or George, those days are the height of hurricane season. This could be a “home run” if we get a hurricane. Damn wish I’d thought of that, those Democrats are so smart!
