Oooooooo I am so scared to go downtown!!!!! All the violence and crime. I sure am glad there is no violence anywhere else!!! No homes get broken into, nobody gets shot, stabbed or robbed out side of downtown:) Now I just need to move off of planet LA LA:)

I thought community policing was supposed to curtail this. Aren’t there supposed to be regular patrols by the same officers so that they can get to know the people who are supposed to be in a particular area, and those who they could deem as ‘suspicious’? Sounds like WPD isn’t doing as good a job as they should be doing downtown.

I work at night downtown and see the same officers downtown every night. They do a great job interacting with all of us who work downtown and they respond immediatley if we call them with a problem. From what I’ve seen they do a great job at curtailing the violence downtown. You can not stop every single act of violence.

I always enjoy the opinion that ANY police department can stop EVERY crime. Why is it so easy to take the actual responsibility from the idiots who actually commit the crimes? Last I checked, all police officers are human beings, not superheroes who can be everywhere at any time. Thank you WPD for doing the thankless job you do.
p.s. @brian: maybe you should put some thought into a job as a police officer….might give you the reality check you obviously need.

The amount of violence in down town Wilmington is troublesome.
My wife and I don’t need to frequent late night bars to get that sense of uneasy in down town. We enjoy City Stage and a dinner on front street, we are rarely there after 11 pm. However what we encounter on the streets of Wilmington are some of the most scudzy looking people you can imagine.
They hang out everywhere, they run in the streets and you can just sense that trouble is all around you. In contrast we make several trips each year to New York City. We stay on 45th. near GCS and walk to the theaters and any where else for dinner. We are not the only ones out at night and we have never had a bad experience. I dislike the fact that one can feel safer on the streets of NY than in a small city like Wilmington.
