Flight out of Wilmington diverted to Myrtle Beach

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington International Airport officials confirm a flight out of ILM en route to Atlanta was diverted to Myrtle Beach.

Officials say the pilot of Delta flight 4969 had a concern of mechanical problems and decided to divert the plane.

That flight was rescheduled to leave for Atlanta just before 10 p.m. Monday.

anyone else notice an increase in issues with these commuter east coast commuter flights? i believe us airways recently had issues with some of their flights. these commuter flights are run by smaller companies under the larger airline's name and looks like they need more regular quality audits.

Flight

Well you see, this story was about as informative as my headline. It was worthless. It told us nothing that was helpful. Flight. Flight of the bumble bee. Flight of the tooth fairy. Flight of fantasy.

Who. What. Where. When. Sometimes you could throw in WHY. You did not say anything about what was wrong with the airplane that caused the pilot to land in Myrtle Beach. The last time I was there it was shared with the air force, but I would have considered Wilmington with its superior crash team a better choice.

It must have been a vibration, or a fluttering of the conrtrols. Wheels would not come up. WHAT. Why even write a story that tells us nothing?

That time...

That time of the month Wade? I am pretty sure if WWAY was aware of WHY they would have advised us. As to why the plane landed in Myrtle as opposed to Wilmington, I think one could guess since the plane left Wilmington enroute to Atlanta, Myrtle must have been the nearest location to land safely. Think of it not as a story Wade but rather a notification. Now you can move on with your life.

I have worked in the Aviation business for more then 25 years. Believe me...quality checks/rechecks/and more rechecks prior to take off are becoming a gradual procedure fading into the grey. The pilots are at the mercy of the on board computerized devices to assure all is well...after they themselves inspect the outside of the plane for visual defects (kick the tires so to speak) along with the approval of the mechanics at hand.
Recent developments of an airliner where the fuselage tiles flew off in flight...tires blowing out at landing...are unexcused!!
Yes...anything can and will happen...but a lot of these aircraft in the current "Active Fleet Status" are closely approaching retirement age due from stress on their aerodynamic design (wear and tear), but being as well built as they are and were...they will warn you ahead of time...if possible. Such was this case at CLT. Pilots aren't the only ones over worked in the airline industry.
One word of advice to the bean counters within the airline industry's higher-ups..."You will get your money from airfares/airline mergers/employee pay cuts...but don't push safety onto the back burner just to speed up time schedules and financial assurance".
It just isn't worth the risk to living human beings.}
