WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Bruce Shell is retiring from his job as New Hanover County Manager. Shell made the announcement Monday afternoon during a New Hanover County Commission meeting. His last day will be June 30.
“We’ve gotten a lot done,” Shell told commissioners. “I think we have a lot yet that we can do, and you each bring talents to the job. We don’t always agree, but we always get it done at the end of the day.”
Shell said he is retiring to spend more time with his family.
Shell has served as the County Manager since November 2005. Prior to his appointment, he served as Finance Director for New Hanover County for 11 years. He is a Raleigh native and a graduate of UNCW.
“To be the manager of an organization like we have with the focus that we have on customer service… has just been inspirational for me. That’s why I come to work every day with a great attitude of what we can accomplish,” Shell said.
At today’s meeting, the commissioners thanked Shell for his service.
