NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Animal Control Manager Jean McNeil appealed her termination during a Health Board meeting Tuesday night.

McNeil was fired after being put on administrative leave at the end of last month. She claims being placed on leave was retaliation from her boss Health Director David Rice, after she raised concerns about employees not receiving emergency pay during Hurricane Irene.

She gave her appeal after the executive committee went into closed session to talk about the personnel matter. She says the committee has three business days to make a decision.

I personally know Jean McNeil and know she is a person of integrity. I can only hope the truth comes out, as I know she would always do her best on the job. You Go Girl!!

Good for her….these guys like Rice and Shell have been doing slimmy things like this to their employees for years…..you go Jean, fight the good fight and drag these good old boy moves out into the sunlight for all to see!

I sympathize with a long term employee. If she asks for the reasons of her termination to be made public, then release them. If she has valid reasons for appeal, hear them. Period. If Mr. Rice is playing politics, fire Him. Transparency. Let’s hear it. But, If She did violate rules of protocol or wage violations then She may have to suffer the consequences. Too bad these rules or something equivalent does not apply to Brian Berger.
