CHAPEL HILL, NC (RALEIGH NEWS & OBSERVER) — Stilman White spent nearly half of his childhood growing up in Wilmington, but he was never much of a Tar Heels basketball fan.

Instead, the Hoggard High School graduate pulled for a couple of lesser-known schools out west – schools he thought he might attend before North Carolina came in with a late scholarship offer about a year ago.

“I was kind of a big-school hater, you know,” White said Tuesday. “I was always pulling for Utah or BYU – the kind of mid-major schools.”

Perhaps it’s fitting that White rooted for the underdogs. It’s a role he’s adopting now, as North Carolina’s backup point guard.

You’re kidding, right? UNC recruited this kids for his skills, which he obviously has. But as someone named “DieHardNCStateFan” I wouldn’t expect you to know much.

there’s really no need to be so critical of Stilman. Not many true freshman see much, if any, playing time their first year. Kudo’s to Stilman for having the talent to be recruited. Apparently Roy Williams saw the talent Stilman has while you have only shown your total disdain for any school other than NC State.

…and he was playing point guard well and helping to win in a 19-point blow-out! But maybe I was dreaming!

WWAY needs to correct their story. Stilman White is the “back back” up point guard for UNC. You guys really think this kid is going to see a lot of playing time because of strickland being out? There are still two other point guards for UNC but you guys keep dreaming. The only time we will see Stilman is when the camera man cuts to the player who actually was playing when he heads to the bench and there you will find Stilman sitting and when UNC is blowing out a team by 40 points, then he will become a back up point guard.
