WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — While the news of Gov. Bev Perdue choosing not to run again took some local voters by surprise, others did not seemed too phased, and most were still more interested in the issues.

Nate Seifrite of Wilmington says it doesn’t surprise him that anyone in the political spotlight would want to get out.

“I believe Ben Franklin coined the sausage principal,” Seifrite said. “It states simply that any man who loves sausage and or has respect for the law should never watch either one being made.”

Jesse Tate of Wilmington was not surprised to hear about the governor, but he is more interested in what else is going on in the state.

“I did hear about the governor, and she wants to raise state taxes three-quarters of a percent to bring in money for education,” Tate said. “I don’t agree with that.”

It is good for the state of NC that Gov Perdue has elected not to run again. Maybe now we can elect someone who will actually work to improve the economy of the state.
