BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — Pender County has a new county manager. In a 3-2 vote, the County Commission this morning selected Mickey Duvall to succeed Rick Benton, who is retiring.

Commission Chair George Brown voted against Duvall. He said he did not vote for Duvall because he felt other candidates had more experience for the position than duvall, who currently serves as Graham County Manager.

Duvall says he knew about the way the council would vote beforehand, so he was not surprised by the way things played out this morning.

“I did know the background of the vote prior to coming on, and I do feel really comfortable,” Duvall said. “After the vote they gave me a full board of support, and that’s all any manager can ask for in this situation is that the board is behind them. The manager has a great chance to succeed, and I think we will succeed here in Pender County.”

Duvall says he is excited to get to work for Pender County. He starts February 13.
