BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County Commissioner Charles Warren was once again fighting his fellow commissioners this afternoon this time in court.

A judge said he will make a decision later this week on whether commissioners can remove warren from the county’s DSS Board. It’s a move at least one fellow DSS Board member wants.

“I’m hoping desperately that he’s removed,” Pat Sykes said.

Commissioners want to remove Warren from the board after he threw Sykes out of a meeting last month. When commissioners scheduled a hearing on removing Warren, Warren filed a restraining order blocking them from taking action.

“I think with the handbook and the statutes that it plainly says in there that whoever appoints him to the board can remove him, so we’ll have to wait an see what the judge says,” Sykes said.

A superior court judge decided to wait until Wednesday to make any decision on the case.

Scott Phillips was the only commissioner in court. He says if the judge rules in the county’s favor, commissioners will start the hearing process as soon as possible.

“Then the county would move forward as soon as possible, meeting all the requirements for notice and evidence to be presented and witnesses to be heard,” Phillips said.

Warren’s restraining order against his fellow commissioners holding a hearing remains in effect until the judge makes a decision Wednesday.
