Tables turn for Barfield after McIntyre's announcement

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Filing to run for office in the state starts Monday, a beginning to what should be a very interesting election season.

Governor Bev Perdue’s announcement last month was a shock to many, sparking an entirely new political ball game in North Carolina. Now that Congressman Mike McIntyre has decided not to run for the governor's office, his seat is no longer up for grabs, which leaves New Hanover County Commissioner Jonathan Barfield to change his plans.

“It leaves me staying with the board of County Commissioners,” Barfield said.

Less than a month ago, Barfield was in a different state of mind. He said that if McIntyre did run for governor, he would run for McIntyre's seat. Barfield says he is not ruling out eventually running for Congress.

“It’s definitely on my radar screen,” Barfield said. “It's something that I am striving to get to. Just right now, the timing definitely would not be right with him continuing to go ahead and run for re-election and with the dynamics in county government, it's just time to stay put for a while.”

New Hanover County Commissioner Rick Catlin has also announced he will be running for a seat in the state House of Representatives.

The demographics of NC 7 still provide enough minority voters and sob-sister White liberal pansies that Barfield could easily be elected if McIntyre wasn't around.

We definitely don't need Barfield on a national level. He is bad enough at the local level. I hope that New Hanover County does not re-elect him.

We were blessed that Barfield is not running for Congress. He has done nothing except cause problems in New Hanover County,so let's keep it him here so it will be much easier to get rid of him during the next election.

The State Dems know more then likely McCrory is going to win the election no matter who runs in Bev Perdues slot so McIntyre would be sacrificing himself for nothing and if the 7th district were left wide open Pantano would likely waltz in and trounce a guy like Barfield in a whitewash. The Dems are somehow hoping they can convince SE NC that Mike is still a 'Blue Dog' when he is anything but... So in order to save power Mike is being the good little Democrat per the powers that be.

...before they hatch.

We may be building toward a repeat of 2008, in which a wildly UN-impressive Republican liberal fails to displace his fellow liberal currently occupying the White House.

If that happens, don't bet on anything. The Socialists would easily retain the Senate and could even win the House back. The long coat-tail effect that gave us this idiot as governor could put Dalton or even that drunken bum Etheridge in to replace her.

If all that happens, then years from now, when we discuss the late, great United States there will be equal blame to go around between the Socialist Democrats and an incompetent, irrational Republican leadership that refuses to field people the majority of their own party can support, and will not attack Obama head on regarding his Marxist affiliations. We can also thank a Tea Party that obviously exhausted themselves in 2010 and are still sleeping off the victory celebrations.

Im sure he will take his good ole by network with him wherever he goes.

Career politicians are only interested in what's best for themselves, their families and their good ol' boy buddies. The current state of the economy illustrates this. It's time to vote out the career politicians.

and I'll continue to not vote for you as I've done in the past. We don't need anymore tax & spend liberals like you in Congress...we already have Mike...but hopefully that will change in November.

McIntyre is no liberal. Go to the story about him deciding to pass on running for governor and you'll read a post from one of the sob-sister Socialists whining about McIntyre being one of the last dozen or so Congressmen who haven't sworn allegiance to Karl Marx.

I have nothing against Pantano. He's a good man and if McIntyre wasn't running, he'd have my vote. The Republicans will NEVER win NC 7 however, until you can come up with something more than "McIntyre has a D after his name."

He voted against Cap-n-Tax, he voted against Obaminationcare, he opposes "card check," and he consistently supports the Second Amendment and veterans.

I see no reason whatsoever to replace him.

he is consistent with Truman era Democrats. Do not spend more than you bring in. He has been a consistent conservative. He's more conservative than some Republicans I can name. One of the very few Democrats I can support.

Now in all fairness, he has the support of the Lumbee Tribal Council behind him. The Great White Father consistently brings home the wampum for his tribal brothers; and if I looked at the map correctly, they stay in his district. But at least it is treaty money and not entitlements.

If you think that Mike is a tax & spend liberal, you are a brain dead Republican retard. Look at his actual record - he is the very definition of a blue dog Democrat (which is the real reason he's not running for governor - the DNC wouldn't support him because he's not a real Democrat). I am not a Mike fan but I would vote for him over that baby-killing Pantano any day.

They keep moving the buffet table on him.
