WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s been two days since a crash in Forest Hills killed three people. Now video has surfaced that shows the SUV seconds before it hit a tree.

The video shows the SUV speeding down Colonial Drive toward Forest Hills Drive. About ten seconds later a Wilmington Police car follows at about the same speed.

Click here to see video of SUV, police car

We showed the footage to private investigator Marc Benson, who has received training in accident reconstruction and speed measuring. By comparing the SUV to other cars in the surveillance footage, his opinion is that the SUV was going well over 60 miles per hour.

“If I was sitting off to the side and saw that car pass, I would say in excess of 70, 75 miles per hour,” Benson said. “There’s a slower car that appears to be going the speed limit, which would be 20 to 25 miles per hour. Next you will see a car accelerating through that same shot, and as that car accelerates through, you can tell it is going much faster than the speed limit.”

Benson says with the SUV going that fast on a residential street, the crash could have had a deadlier outcome, especially if another car had turned into its path.

“This is not a highway speed or interstate speed environment,” he said. “When you got people going though there at interstate speeds something bad is going to happen.”

Police say an officer followed the SUV after seeing it driving with its lights off on Wrightsville Avenue. By the time the SUV passed the camera on Colonial Drive, though, its headlights appear to be on.

The one survivor of the crash, Demond Jones, was listed in fair condition at New Hanover Regional Medical Center Wednesday afternoon.

“YA’SHICA ,IS GONE AND WE DON’T KNOW THE REAL REASON WHY”

“SDS” is the probably cause, sudden deceleration syndrome. She wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was in a car that was running from the sight of a cop for no reason, so fast that when they hit the tree the battery from the car flew 150 feet. I think thats why. Just my guess.

Keep blaming someone else, that officer didn’t force that car to crash. That’s the reality. Typical ignorant attitudes. Bringing God into your statement doesn’t do much for your argument when you go and state that you’re going to spend your last dollar trying to make the cop look bad. How very christian of you. Pathetic.

I feel for the families and I really hate that these people died regardless of what their past was, but I haven’t seen anything that is slander. For something to be slander it has to be a lie and posting a person’s criminal record, no matter how unpleasant it may be, it is not slander.

  • John says:

It is rediculous how friends of the deceased blame the cops for the accident. Wake up people. The accident was caused by a thug who was exceeding the speed limit in quite neighborhood. I feel for the two women who lost their lives but have no pity for the driver.

  • anne says:

First of all, you need to learn to spell. If you talk like you spell, you might want to go back to school.

I don’t approve of any of the nasty comments made. I don’t care what kind of criminals they were, nobody deserves to die like that. The real truth probably will never be known, but whomever the driver was made some bad choices and his/her choices led to the deaths of the others. Yes, there will be people that will blame the cops because they can’t get it into their heads that their loved one would do something as foolish as this, but it happens.

You can’t move on until you accept the fact that there are consequences to all choices made whether they be bad or good choices. Unfortunately, in this case, those choices led to deaths of innocent people. It could have been even worse, because he/she could have killed anyone out there walking or could have hit a home. Hearts are broken and lives are changed forever.

This accident is a tragedy. Many lives were lost, and for the families and friends their lifes will never be the same. Hopefully the investigating officers can find a reason, no matter how absurd we think it is, as to why the driver was acting in the manner he was. The officers need to explain to the families how and why they have determined the cause and reason for the accident. Mr. Jones needs to reveal truthfully what he knows. He’s the only one who knows the answer factually as to why the driver was acting in this manner. I also have investigated accidents and know the long term effects it has on the families, friends and loved ones of those killed. No matter what the answer is it is never good enough to remove the pain that is now inflicted. The Wilmington Police Dept has several excellent accident investigators, who will explain to the family how they investigated the accident, determined what happened and address their questions. The truth for the victim’s families may be hard to hear, but at least they will have the truth, not hearsay or speculation. Hopefully this terrible accident will be evidence to other young drivers that a motor vehicle can injury or kill you.

Finally my prayers go out to the families, friends and love ones of the deceased. Mr. Jones you survived for some reason, so make your life a positive change for the better.

  • alonza says:

another idiot get a life and let the friends and families grieve the way that gives them comfort and the next time you get in a car you remember to turn your lights on and fasten up but at times we all forget.

  • Guest6689 says:

and follows you, don’t plow into a tree at a high rate of speed to remedy the situation. Let him pull you over. It’s all on video. If you’ve done nothing wrong, you have nothing to worry about. Oh second lesson: seat belts save lives.

Also, has the WPD released information about any substances in the driver’s body and was alcohol, or other intoxicants, found in the vehicle?

  • David says:

What gives us the right to judge? The driver doing 65 in a public neighborhood gives me the right to judge. AND I JUDGE THESE MEN WERE UP TO NO GOOD… BUT YOU PEOPLE SIT BACK AND THEN POINT THE FINGER AT THE POLICE…AND SAY ITS THEIR FAULT. THE POLICE DIDN’T PUT THE GUYS FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR DID THEY?

The majority of your kind never takes any responsibility and always wants to blame someone else for your misfortunes. Wake up.

  • Grand Ole Party says:

To all those who are complaining about the comments left on this forum~ Don’t read them, don’t even visit this page. The truth hurts. Why do the family members of thugs always want to blame the police? It is pretty simple really, if they had been going at a legal speed they would be alive. If they had stopped the vehicle for the officer they would be alive. If they had not stuck the large tree, well they would be alive. Blame the driver. I don’t care if you don’t think we have the right to judge, we are going to anyway. Live with it.

  • Guest, just another says:

Its a shame for the children, but this isn’t a black thing, or a bigot thing, its a CHOICE thing. They made dumb, poor choices. Sometimes this is what you get. Maybe Jamontea, Shandella, and Mya will wear their seatbelts when they run with thugs, (when thugs are running) because that’s the way these girls were raised, so that’s what their future holds next.

Fellow thugs / Friends of thugs want to bash WPD. Why? The cop wasn’t speeding through a neighborhood, the cop didn’t crash without a seatbelt on, the cop didn’t make that driver race away. From the video, you can see that the cop was going slower than the SUV.

Thank God that the idiot driving that KILLED those girls didn’t kill another innocent family in the process. And by innocent, I mean someone who didn’t get into the car BY CHOICE and not wear a seatbelt and run from the sight of a cop!

  • Mel says:

First, I offer my deepest sympathy and prayers to the families that have suffered this loss!
Second…… “let ye without sin cast the first stone”! Wow! What is wrong with you? How can you be so LACKING in compassion? There are small children involved here! Young people that are going to be without their parent(s) for the rest of their lives. Whatever happened to “if you have nothing nice to say keep it to yourself”? Why don’t you do something positive and fruitful with that energy you are using?
Thirdly, “live by the tongue, die by tongue! May the law of reciprosity be known to you that you learn the valuable lesson “judge not lest ye be judged”. It would be because of ill placed thoughts and actions of persons like yourselves that cause the youth to do most of the things they do. What happened to living by example for all to see? But you can pass judgements on the actions of others. You are definately better than I!!

  • ??????? says:

I as well watched the video several times and zoomed in on it. I totally agree with suicide/murder. But when it comes down to the bottom line, it doesnt matter what happened that night. God felt these people needed to be with him more then them being on this earth. God had his reasons that we are not to question. Either way for what ever reason these people are in a better place.
I know everyone is entitled to their opinions but what does it really matter at this point. ITs time for everyone to allow the families who lost love ones to morn their lose and for everyone else to stop speculating and give support for the families. God bless the families and god be with you all………….

  • Sad World says:

Was the car stolen? Was he on probation? Did the driver have a license, insurance? Was he scared to stop because the police shot his cousin last month? Was he scared to stop because he hadn’t did anything wrong? Did he believe he possessed the skills to out run the police? All these are legitimate questions, with the thug mindset of today’s youth.

  • justin says:

Is there any police dashcam video of police radio chatter in and around the time of this accident? Sees the local media should be looking at all sides, not just what reader’s submit.

  • kathy marie says:

lives were lost, families are hurting. it does not matter what kind of back ground these people had. Life is life. My heart goes out to the families, I put myself in thier shoes, and I cried when I heard about this accident. So people, have some compassion and keep your negative comments to yourself!

  • Gramps1935 says:

At least 2 or 3X a year, I pull out with my lights off, after going 2 or 3 blocks, I realize they’re off, and turn them on. This is probably what happened with the driver.

Cops are trained to pull folks over, driving without their lights on. Its an immediate safety hazzard, and half the time they’re drunk. The other half, the cop can let them go on a courteous verbal warning.

The cop was simply doing his duty. Unfortunately, the driver chose to race 100 MPH and kill himself, and 2 other people.

  • Olivia says:

For you people that have nothing better to do than to get on here and talk about how these people were criminals with records and how it’s their fault because they weren’t wearing seltbelts and how no-one is to blame, but them, should be ashamed to even show your face in public. We all as human beings make mistakes. Yes, some are worse than others, but who is it of you to judge anybody on their past. I’m sure if someone opened up your closet, it would have some skeletons of it’s own in there. That is what is wrong with the world these days..Too many people are too busy slandering our young ones instead of lifting them up in prayer. It’s amazing that some of you actually sit down and think your comments are justified. Families are hurting, Parents have lost their sons & daughters..Children have lost their Mommy or Daddy and people like you are sitting back saying they deserved it!!! May God have mercy on your soul is all I can say!

To the families of the lost loved ones..I pray God to grant you peace during these difficult times to come. I pray He wraps His arms around you and gives you the strength you need to get up everyday and keep moving forward.God is our comforter durng times of need.

    Sincerely…

  • Gramps1935 says:

Oh yes, he was a “Great Man”. Who abused children. Read his record. Thank God there’s one less thug taking indecent liberties with children.

  • Guest111 says:

I watched the video several times. I would say the driver literally committed suicide and two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. No one in their right mind would drive that fast in a neighborhood or any where else in the city. Facts are facts. This guy must have been roaring high on drugs to do this.

  • don't pass judgment says:

I knew the driver for 5 years. We actually used to date. I know he had his reasons for speeding up and it was a stupid decision but the fact of the matter is he was a lost soul. he had no guidance in his life. He made dumb careless decisions but he had a good heart and I can assure you he had no intentions on that being the result of his actions. R.I.P Ralph

  • Vicky from Leland says:

OMG r yal freaking serious??? children lost parents nd parents loat children. All dis BS dat is being written up here needs 2 quit. • Shenequa says:

Okay! First off I see headlights. Now maybe he didnt turn them on till after he seen them but what I wanna know is was going that speed limit worth it?? Okay maybe no license or maybe it could’ve been other stuff but just simply pulling over would’ve saved all this. Did he not realize he is also responsible for the passengers in the car or realize two people that I knew personally had children they had to go back too or that someone could’ve been out there walking or like someone said the battery could’ve hurt some child in an house?? I’m not gonna blame anyone because at the end of the day we only know what we are told and what we see. For someone to be harsh and say she should’ve been home and she would be living can shove it because sometimes us as mothers have our downtime and its just sad that two amazing and great mothers had to die on a senseless act like this. I hate the fact some of y’all don’t even care and say stuff that are just outrageous. Find something better to do. WWAY please do some more investagating on this story and maybe even get a interview with Demond. R.I.P Tia and Shica.

  • ?????? says:

Sounds like a suicide to me………. suv traveling that fast, not using their breaks and heading right for the tree……………..

  • Guest 10101 says:

First of all, my condolences to the friends and families of those who died in this tragic accident. Death in a family is always heartbreaking, regardless of the circumstances.

Perhaps some of the comments you made came from anger, but a couple of them disturbed me.
    – “2 YOUNG MOTHERS LOST THERE LIVES FOR WHAT EVER REASON GOD SAW … CHILDREN CAN’T EVEN GO ON DATES WITHOUT SOME ASSHOLES ALWAYS JUDGING THEM!” : It’s sad when “children” going out on dates also happen to be two young mothers. When children are also mothers, their children start out in life with real disadvantages. That is not a good thing.
    – “YOUR NOT GOD AND YOU DONT MATTER JUST LIKE WPD , IT UP TO GOD AND GOD ALONE THE TRUTH ALWAYS COMES OUT DEAD OR ALIVE” : It’s not just up to God. Sure, God’s the final judge, but that doesn’t mean that we can just do whatever we want here on Earth because God will sort it out later. As God’s subjects here on Earth, we have a God-given right to judge those who do wrong and to have order in our society. If we didn’t, it would just be crazyness. That also would be a bad thing.

Again, my condolences to the friends and families of those who died. I hope you find peace at some future time.

  • Guest2020 says:

The officer stated that when he passed the car the headlights were off and he turned around to follow the car. That does not mean that the driver never turned on his light. Why don’t you do a thorough read of the information given instead of looking for excuses to jump to conclusions.

WWAY contacted an expert outside of the police department to look at the video to ascertain what the speed was. He said that the driver was going upwards of 70-75 mph. Us lay people watching the video can see that the driver was going quite a bit faster than the posted speed limit.

  • Guest228 says:

the same police department that lied about the headlights..come on! WAKE UP!!!!!!!!

  • John says:

Wake up? ReallY? The bottom line is these people were up to no good. The children left behind will probably be better off without them in their lives and maybe will learn something from this.

Don’t drive 80mph through neighborhoods and don’t hang out with convicted felons.

    RIP NGNOGS

  • Challengetheworld says:

Regardless of what happened; the driver killed two people and himself. That is the problem.

  • Guest461 says:

… a huge chunk of an oak tree missing and three poor dead souls that died instantly from impact, it makes it look like 80 mph is conservative. There’s absolutely no need for lies about the rate of speed or driver accuracy. The apparent visual evidence is overwhelming here. Go back to your crack pipe and king cobra…

Now, once they get this SUV unfolded, search it thoroughly and perform toxin tests on the victims, we may just get to the root of the cause here. There’s MORE to this story, you can bet on that!

  • Sad says:

Keep in mind the driver could have put his lights on after passing the officer and seeing him turn around. I am the last person to defend the WPD as I have a letter in my possession in which an officer tried to run me off the road in 2008 and admitted to his Superior he was late for the gym! May the driver RIP but there has to be a reason he sped up after seeing the officer turn around. Maybe had too much to drink at Outback or should not have been driving for other reasons. Nothing can bring them back. Let them all be laid to rest without harsh judgement and serve as a reminder to all of us to wear out seatbelts!

  • Guest228 says:

this right here tells you why we shouldnt hold police officers statements as the final word. WWAY, this calls for some serious questions to the police account of events. Thank god for the man who was taping at that point because these families would have gone on thinking their love ones was driving reckless.

  • John says:

Would have gone on thinking their love ones was driving reckless?????

What part of that did you not think was reckless? How fast do you think they were going through that residential neighborhood?

Recklessness is definitely what caused the accident. A 1,000 cars a day pass that same tree and none seem to hit it head on going 50+ mph.

  • GuestHUH? says:

Did you not see how fast the SUV was traveling? Is it the police officer’s fault they were driving that fast? I know my truck has daytime lights that I can’t turn off but it can turn off the tail lights.
Point being, how in the world can you blame the police? If the SUV were traveling the speed limit this horrible accident would have never occurred.

You can’t blame the police. Everything points to the driver. Sad,yes. Preventable, yes.

Sad to say this but we live in an acountability society where everyone wants to point fingers at everyone else and not themselves.

  • Guest Redneck Across the River says:

You can drive reckless with or without your headlights on. Fact is, they were still driving too fast.

  • Guest888 says:

guest228 your an idiot. Maybe their lights were off(cruising the neighborhood staking out what to steal) and when they saw the police car they turned them on. Plus dont you think crashing into a tree at a HIGH rate of speed on that residential street was not reckless driving. So one other thing, the news reported they had just picked up paychecks at McDonalds in….Leland. WTF were the doing cruising around on Colonial? Yeah, they were out just driving around? Not up to no good. No way.

  • Guest229 says:

You’re right about following up on police accounts, BUT, that video clearly shows they WERE driving recklessly, speeding pretty darn fast through a residential neighborhood

  • Guest461 says:

The driver could’ve turned his lights on after spotting the officer. The report does say that lights “suddenly appeared” as the camera filmed.

By the way, remember that speed in excess of 80mph was THE major contributing factor to the results of this tragic accident. 80mph in a 25mph zone will get ANYONE a reckless driving arrest, lights on or not!

The officer wasn’t driving the SUV, remember?

  • Spidey says:

@ guest 228: Don’t be stupid! Speeding through a residential neighborhood IS driving reckless!!

  • Guest_99x says:

    WWAY,

Don’t you have a moderator on this board who is aware of your own posting policies? Guest228 raises a very valid point, though with emotion, in a CIVIL manner.

Why do you allow for this poster to be referred to as an “idiot” in a subsequent post?

  • WilmMan says:

The report says the video shows a darkened street suddenly illuminated…meaning the driver of the vehicle initially had his lights off and then cut them on a few seconds before the crash. And I like how you completely dismiss the speed of the vehicle. At some point one would think you would get tired of trying to blame the police for everything

  • Guest10101 says:

80 miles an hour on a residencial street is careless and wreckless driving wheather a police car is behind them or not, how many times have you seen a police car turn around on a vehicle and wait to catch up with it before turnin on the blue lights and siren. Some people are thinking like the police made this young man drive that fast and wreck. This young man made his own choice and payed the consequences, its just a shame the young ladies didn’t get the same choice. Just another case of inexperience and speed.

  • Guest111 says:

I comment on here all the time but this response is not from me. I hope you can tell the difference in language, writing and spelling. We don’t need two guest111 commenting.

  • ebbyboo26 says:

like are u really saying this. raise your children right. that’s sound so stupid. even if you raise your child the right way. when they get older and they choose they own path. then that’s on them the path that the choose. people are just talking now to hear them self’s talk. how you raise your kids. that is so funny. so you saying if one of your relatives commit a crime, and something happens that’s you and your family fault for not raising the right. get out of here.

  • RELATIVE TO TWO OF THE VICTIMS says:

THANK GOD FOR THIS CIVILAN RECORDING THIS VIDEO, SOMETHING DIDN’T SOUND RIGHT ABOUT THIS STORY FROM THE BEGINNING, I HOPE THE TRUTH FINALLY COMES OUT….MY HEART GOES OUT TO MY COUSINS, PAT, BIG RED AND TONI…LOVE YA

  • Guest111 says:

I hope the truth come out also,, and we see just how truly screwed up you people are. Your all criminals for allowing your relatives to commit crimes and not raising them right. Sorry , the truth hurts.

  • Guestwtf says:

Dear Mr. or Mrs. Relative to two of the victims,

The only truth here is that SUV was traveling way too fast for that residential street. How come you can’t come to this TRUTH? I am shocked at that finger pointing you show and lack of honesty in your post. WHO CARES IF THE LIGHTS WERE ON OR OFF!
The car was driven too fast for that street.
Answer me this just for everyone, WHY WAS HE DRIVING SO FAST?? If he had done nothing wrong then there is no need to speed.

One more thing, WHY DO POSTS BY REMORSEFUL PEOPLE COME IN ALL CAPS??

Accept the blame and move on and honor the victims. Go to thier funerals, tell people about the dangers of speeding, most of all obey the law. Is this so freaking hard to understand?

  • Guest5442 says:

I think the criminal background of the deceased men in the car is very important — these were hardened criminals — and from judging from the comments of family members and friends (many of which are themselves felons, just run their names through NC Dept. of Corrections “Offender Search”) they only looked the other way and acted to enable a life of drug use and mischief. What about the victims of their robberies? What about the safety of the children in Forest Hills? The battery of the SUV flew in the air 150 feet after impact — could have killed a sleeping child in a home. This was not an accident, but rather years of poor decision making culminating in an reckless event. Stop telling me “their in heaven now” because there is the thing called judgement and hellfire.

  • Guest228 says:

and he told a flat out LIE! Were they ENGAGE in a criminal act at the time of this so called chase? Why did the officer make up this lie? If they were doing criminal acts as you suggested, the officer wouldnt have to go to extremes to make them look suspicious, but guess what, he forget that he was in Forest Hills where people can afford survelliance equipment and he got caught. The point is, the officer story is not the truth according to his events. Why arent you angry at that issue? That the city of police fabricated events around the deaths of three BLACK people. Oh yeah, because they are black. If these were white kids involved in an accident, you aholes would be all over this blog with your indignation. Black people, come together and call this department out for what it is!! We have hardened proof that the city of police arent telling truthful accounts!

  • Chanie says:

Mind your busy my cousin was killed she had 2 children never had a record and if she did it doesn’t matter the all were someones child! How dare you speak like that. If they were in the hood would you be concerned then. Forest Hills or not the driver had no business running and the cops had no business chasing them in FOREST HILLS! Jamontea and Shandella no longer have their monther, Mya no longer has her mother. You better thank GOD it wasn’t you or let alone your child!

  • ebbyboo26 says:

like really you are just the people that are going to be going to hell. who gave you the right to say something like that. like you people are so dumb that you just saying whatever you want to say and not thinking about the family. you don’t have any say so on who goes to hell or up above. the people who judge is the people who don’t go through them good old gates.

  • Thetruth23 says:

Agreed 100% with Guest5442. So many crying hearts like to look into the blame game and find a scape goat. How about we look at the concept of taking responsability for your own actions? Anyone heard of that? These people decided to drive at a ridiculous speed in a residential neighborhood filled with people who actually obey the law. They made adult decisions, and faced adult consequences. If you want to drive like an idiot and kill yourself, do it in your own hood.

  • Challengetheworld says:

Regardless of what this cell phone video shows; WPD did not drive this car full of children into the tree. WPD did not put them behind the wheel and tell them to drive with no seatbelt. Bad choices produced bad consequences.

Although, I am sorry to the family for your losses and hope you find some closure at some point in time. Please do not blame your anger of loss on the people who put their lives in danger each day to protect you.

As I understood, one man did live and I’m sure the officer responding had something to do with that.

  • Grand Ole Party says:

You seem to be aware of facts the rest of us are not. Exactly what protocol was not followed? What did the police do that was coorupt? We will await your answers.

  • LawAndSociety says:

All i have to say is the police need to get their stories straight. Proper Protocol was no followed and in order to keep this Mess from getting any worse the TRUTH needs to come out. A lawsuit waiting to happen because of police corruption.” Its to late to try to cover your behind now

  • Guest228 says:

Remember, this was an unmarked vehicle that turned around on them? He didnt turn on his siren as he said so how were they to know he was the police?

  • Guestno says:

I would not speed becuase a car turned around and started to follow me. First, most people can tell an unmarked police car anyway. Second, if that id happen , I would drive to a well lit area and i would not pull over or stop. I would not speed to try to get away. If it was that serious, I would have called 911 and asked for some help. I would have kept the safty of myself and my passengers in mind at every turn. The fact remains that the driver did speed and by doing so, he took his own life and the life of the others in his suv. He alone is at fault.

  • Guest2020 says:

The video shows that the officer was following at some distance behind the other vehicle. I don’t think that classifies as the officer chasing him.

According to the local newspaper the police car was a marked car so your argument does not hold water.

  • Guester says:

It wasn’t an unmarked police car – it was a regular WPD marked cruiser. He just didn’t have his flashers & sirens on.

  • Guest2020 says:

The Star News stated that the car was a MARKED police car. The video shows that the police car was a good distance behind them. He may have been following, but he wasn’t exactly chasing them.

  • Gramps1935 says:

I bet he didn’t have a driver’s license, nor insurance either. But I guess that wasn’t his fault either. It’s never the thug, criminal’s fault. Always blame someone else.

  • ebbyboo26 says:

every time something happen’s with a black male why do people like you always think they are thug’s or something? it’s doesn’t really matter because somebody still at the end of the day lost a son, a brother, a grandson. don’t judge people that you don’t know.

  • Guest7778 says:

The WPD have said the SUV had it’s lights off at the moment it passed a police cruiser — that cruiser in turn began a chase — after doing a 180. There was never any claim of wether the SUV had turned its lights on after it accelerated to 80+ MPH as it got away moments before the crash. Again, your attempts to bring race into this is silly being that the police could not have possible known the race of the driver of the SUV at night! Facts are facts.

  • Non speeder says:

You my friend are an idiot. It does not matter why the cops were behind them. The fact of the matter is that they were speeding and lost control and died. I can tell you though, that when the cops are behind me i do not run; therefore i do not crash. For you to throw race into this just proves what an idiot you are. If having a cop behind you is the precipice for speeding than there would be dead people everywhere.

  • Challengetheworld says:

You know what; this story does have something to do with race. One moronic driver who was trying to RACE his car down Forest Hill Drive. He cost himself his life and the lives of two others. Thats the only RACE issue we have here!

Explain to me how in the hell WPD would have MADE him drive his car up a tree at 80mph? Maybe because he was running for some reason? Maybe because he wanted to drive like an idiot? What happens when you find out there was more to the story? Will you retract your comments?

I’m sorry for the loss of any life, but this is the fault of the driver. The other three in the vehicle, they were victims. Also, the criminal backgrounds don’t matter, because his last criminal activity was his last. Now its all just history.

  • PublicAvenger says:

What does skin color have to do with anything. It is a ‘Police Duty’ to pull someone over at night, and get them to turn on their lights. I doubt the cop even saw, or cared about, the skin color of the driver.
The reason he raced into a tree, at 100 MPH, was because he was a criminal, and a idiot-thug. Who chose to do wrong. Each year thousands of people are killed by unlicensed, uninsured, motorists, who selfishly race away from the cops. And couldn’t care less if they paralyse or kill another person.
Then again, if the cop would hve just ignored it, and he would have killede someone a mile up the road, by not having his lights on, you would find some way to blame the cop for that too. And race would certainly be an issue with you there too.
But I guess, to someone like you, all that matters is the skin color, and not the truth.

  • Guest111 says:

Don’t you EVER get tired and embarrassed at using the race card for excuses? You, black, white, purple, orange, green are all responsible for your actions. I’m so sick of the race card. SICK OF IT!!! Why can’t you people take responsibility for what happens in your lives???

  • free loader says:

This is obvious a racial attack on black people! All of you have forgotten the true villian here…the tree! The tree’s a racist because it only killed the black people and nothing happened to the white officer! They should cut that racist tree down. Just because the tree held those black peolple accountable for thier actions (for the first time). And now the taxes payers won’t have to support these entitilled ones, in jail or at home. Now that’s racist too!

  • Guest Today says:

Think about this; the officer is lying. The SUV had daytime running lights. Even if the headlight switch was off, the headlights were on. Thats the way DRL’s work.

The fault of the crash is squarely on the shoulders of the driver. I’m not arguing that. But why would the officer say that the vehicle didnt have its lights on when that clearly is not the case?

  • Guest421 says:

The DRLs can easily be disabled if desired. Anyone wanting to run at night undetected knows how to easily disable them. Most times, just pushing the parking brake down 1 click (not enough to engage brakes)will turn them off. Not all vehicles have them to begin with.

  • Guest228 says:

because if you are saying WWAY stated that the street suddenly became illuminated with lights, I didnt see that in the video, in fact, I saw a car, yes going fast down a street with LIGHTS on. They didnt JUST come on, secondly if you are talking about the WPD report who has just been caught in untruths, then that report itself has to be fabricated. So, we now have to ask ourselves, remember the black kid that was blamed for the officer death with the box in the street, couldnt this same situation be turned around on the officer for the deaths of these three people? Whats good for the goose..

  • GuestQwew says:

You sound like an idiot with your comment. First before any people make comments towards the police go study your general statutes, you know laws of this state, but you probably don’t know what they are. Second if you think these four people that died were not doing anything stupid by driving that fast regardless if the lights were on or not, your an idiot. And, to the ignorant person that said why were the police chasing them, well because it’s there job. You all sound like a bunch of idiots. Yes, it’s sad people lost there lives, but if you want to put the blame on everyone but the people themselves that caused it, I’m sure you will continue to get rude remarks from people. And what happens if blood reports come back that say they were all drunk or high, you still going to blame everyone else? Stop acting like idiots.

  • Chanie says:

I DON’T CARE WHO IS AT FAULT MY SISTER IS DEAD HER CHILDREN NO LONGER HAVE HER. WHAT GIVES ANY OF YOU TO JUDGE! SHUT UP! BE GALD IT’S NOT YOUR CHILDREN OR FAMILY MEMBERS! IM DISCUSSED AT MOST OF YOU THESE ARE PEOPLES CHILDREN MOTHERS AND FATHERS! MY GID WHERE IS YOUR SYMPATHY FOR MY FAMILY AND THERES. AND THINK ABOUT THIS NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO 5 HOURS TO BE CONTACT ABOUT THERE LIVE INES DEATH WHEN THEY HAD ALL OF THERE INFORMATION WPD ISNT TELLING IT ALL. THEY HAVE SWITCH THE STORY TWICE THAT NIGHT AT THE HOSIPTAL TO HER FATHER NOW PONDER ON THAT. GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU AND I PRAY NONE OF YOU WILL HAVE TO SUFFER LIKE WE DO AND LIOK AT HER CHILDREN EVERYDAY LIKE WE DO AND HAVE TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION ” AUNTIE WHERE IS MY MOMMY” LIKE I DO!

  • John says:

What gives us the right to judge? The driver doing 80 in a public neighborhood gives me the right to judge.

Wake up.

  • Just another Guest says:

    Turn off the caps lock.

Second, it appears the school system is at fault by your grammar and spelling.

There’s sympathy for the family, but when you all attack innocent cops and trees, then its just not right. Neither one had any idea that they were going to have to witness such a stupid act, a waste of life.

I blame the driver, no one else. So should you.

  • Guest7969 says:

I pray for your family…I also pray you go back to school…

  • Jay Jay says:

May God be with everyone of the family members and give thim a peace like they need so much! Loosing a family member hurts no matter if its a sickness or accident. No matter who is at fault, they are still loved, cherished and will be deeply missed. I pray that God’s grace be with each and everyone of you!! My thoughts and prayers are with you today and in the future. God Bless!

  • kristina luckey says:

i agree they were both friends and collaeges of mine and i am keeping all of you in my prayers god bless they were both great and amazing people and are truly blessed

  • Guest1234 says:

    Chanie,
I don’t know you and I am very sorry for what has happened to your family.
I hope that you all will be able to find peace one day. I will pray for your family and all of their friends. I would like to say that this town we live in is full of sympathetic people sad part is there isn’t. Including WWAY, they are the ones who control what comments are allowed to be put on their nasty blog site. They want all of us here to argue and fight on here. I actually was sickened by people putting arrest records on here and such. God help all of these nasty people writing nasty stuff. They will have to meet their maker one of these days and he will judge them. Again, I am very sorry for you and your family and friends. Not all of us in Wilmington feel like these people on here do. May God Bless and keep your family. <3

  • Guest6381 says:

If she had been home tending to her kids like she should have been, she would be alive today.

  • Guest2020 says:

Given that the officer did not turn on his lights or sirens, I don’t see how you can say that he was chasing them. The video shows him following at a distance. I feel sorry for the family members of those who died, but all three of the ones that died are accountable for their own deaths and the injured one is accountable for his own injuries.

  • Guest688 says:

I don’t understand how a thug is made a saint for harming someone else or putting the general public in harm’s way. Are you twisted or something?

  • lynn 40 says:

Seriously??? Are you implying that a mother should have no life other than tending to her children??? How incredibly IGNORANT you are. What if she had been working and killed in an accident,,, would you still say the same thing? How cruel and callous you are to make such an outrageous claim. I hope that if you are a mother you are teaching your kids better than to be so unconcerned with other people’s grief. What a sad individual you must be…

  • Guest, just another says:

Its not that if “they were in the hood”, its what were they doing speeding with their lights off in Forest Hills? I’m guessing no good. The females probably didn’t have records, but what were they doing with guys that did?

Its a shame for the children, but this isn’t a black thing, or a bigot thing, its a CHOICE thing. They made dumb, poor choices. Sometimes this is what you get. Maybe Jamontea, Shandella, and Mya will wear their seatbelts when they run with thugs, (when thugs are running) because thats the way these girls were raised, so that’s what their future holds next.

  • Guest111 says:

    I have to agree.

  • Guest123456 says:

wow..i cannot believe you have the audacity to argue with this family member during their time of grief. it doesnt matter if they had a criminal background, if the headlights were on or off which everyone seems to be arguing about..these young people lost their lives and all ya’ll can do is find the bad in them and argue. its sad that the world we live in today always has to find the bad in someone just to justify themselves and their opinions..in my opinion i think everyone should shut up about it and leave these people alone. if you were in their shoes and lost someone and got on here to find nothing but bad remarks how would you feel?? 90% of you on here are heartless a holes who need to keep quiet if there’s nothing nice that can come out of your mouths. i want to say i am sorry to all of the family members for what they are going through and just know that there are people out there who care no matter what..the whole world isnt as hateful as these people are..

  • Guest2020 says:

The video shows the two vehicles travelling in the same direction. The story reported that the officer saw the vehicle going down the road without any headlights, then he turned around. So, according to the news report the officer didn’t say that the vehicle never had its lights on, he just said when he passed the vehicle the lights were not on. Therefore, there is not a lie involved.

As for the officer not turning his lights and sirens on, they don’t always do that immediately. Sometimes when they see something, the will follow and observe before turning on the lights or sirens. People seem to be taking a little bit of information and making mountains out of mole hills. And as others have said, anything the officer said or did does not change the fact that the driver was reckless and the driver caused the accident, not the officer.

  • guesty says:

But if it walks like a duck, looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, you my friend have a duck. Now replace duck with thug/criminal and you have this crew.
We are all judged by our past and current actions. Too bad if you don’t want to be judged.

  • Guest Lee says:

I didn’t see race mentioned anywhere in his post. You’re the one who brought up race. A thug can white OR black or purple. A thug is a thug, no matter what race.

  • lTate says:

Bravo! I live on this road. It’s clearly marked 25 mph and has several LARGE speed bumps on it. God rest their souls and condolences to the families but there is always more as well as two sides to every story.

  • Guest1210 says:

The main focus here is these kids lost their lives. Some of these victims had children. Why would you say such things as they were scoping out what to steal. I think it is ignorant for individuals to be so cold hearted when families are grieving. PLEASE let these individuals rest. We need to pray for these children that no longer have their parents. One lady would work faithfully at McDonalds and loved her two children. I encountered her presence at work while dining there, she did what she had to do to support her children. Pray for the lost. Stop degrading them by making comments about what they were after to steal in this neighborhood. We all were young once and did some things that did not catch up with us. We learn most of the time from our mistakes or choices but God has his way of doing things. Yes they were speeding, I’m not making any excuses about that but they were young and this could have been anyone’s young child. A parent may raise his or her child to their best ability but a child will make his or her own choices. So STOP PUTTING THEIR parents down about the way they have RAISED their children. WAKE UP and SHOW REMORSE. I”M PRAYING THAT EVERYONE FINDS Understanding and COME TOGETHER. MY HEART GOES out to these VICTIM’s FAMILIES.
