RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Republican leaders at the North Carolina General Assembly followed through on their word and conducted no business while meeting in Raleigh for less than 15 minutes.

The short floor sessions Thursday in the House and Senate did not relieve the suspicion by Democrats and dozens of activists opposed to GOP policies. House Democrats say they lost trust in Republican leaders last month when they held an unscheduled after-midnight session to override a veto by Gov. Bev Perdue involving member dues and the North Carolina Association of Educators.

About 75 people critical of the Republican agenda rallied outside the Legislative Building before the noon session.

Months ago Republican leaders scheduled up to three days of work sessions this week to handle possible election district matters that never materialized.
