WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Members of the New Hanover County ABC Board recognized area law enforcement for trying to make downtown Wilmington a safer place.

Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous and New Hanover County Sheriff Ed McMahon both attended the meeting. They said money from the ABC Board last summer has helped downtown Wilmington tremendously.

“The chief and I have committed to working together, sharing our resources, and by this board funding several positions that has really helped us to be able to really partner together a lot more than we could have,” Sheriff McMahon said.

The ABC Board gave $180,000 to help add extra officers in downtown Wilmington to reduce crime.
