RALEIGH, NC (AP) — The war in Afghanistan has made for strange political bedfellows in North Carolina’s congressional delegation, with a conservative Republican joining two liberal Democrats in calling for the withdrawal of US troops.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports that Republican Rep. Walter Jones joined Democrats Brad Miller and David Price at a meeting at the capitol Monday where the three urged the Obama administration to leave Afghanistan.

About 150 people at the Legislative Building gave Jones a standing ovation after an emotional speech recounting his visit to three disabled Marines at Walter Reed Army Hospital.

Jones, Miller and Price say they often disagree on policy issues, but say the war transcends partisan divisions. Jones’s participation was criticized by his Republican primary opponent, Frank Palombo.

Walter Jones has repeatedly proven he is a RINO, he claims to be conservative but one many occasions has come out against our military and defense department spending and intiatives going back before Obama. Walter Jones do us all a favor and quit the Republican Party you give the rest of the Republicans a bad name and do nothing to instill party loyalty (and your not a tea party type either) you’re far from conservative in fact your voting record at times puts you to the left of our esteemed 7th District Congressman Mike McIntyre which is funny to say the least..

…would applaud Jones’ actions. We have accomplsihed NOTHING, and there’s no reason to have a few hundred more lives wasted.

Nations fight wars against nations, not groups of people within nations. In all of military history there is only ONE example of a third-party led counterinsurgency succeeding, Malaya, and that was under very unusual conditions. Third-party, outsider led counterinsurgencies simply don’t work. They didn’t work in Vietnam, they didn’t work in Iraq, and they certainly haven’t worked in Afghanistan. The Taliban is as strong as it ever was and our troops are simply serving tours on target duty. We are now NEGOTIATING indirectly with the Taliban.

George Bush launched both wars with absolutely no intention of winning them. He had no stomach for the slaughter of true war, and no thirst for the victory that is so necessary to achieve your goals. We defeated Germany, Italy and Japan in less time than it took us to accomplish nothing in Afghanistan. I supported Bush and even tried to go back on active duty in 2001 and 2003. By 2005, First Fallujah, it was obvious that he was an idiot and had no desire to wage war. He just wanted to SAY he was fighting a war, while men died because of overly-restrictive rules of engagement. Our “War on Terrorism” stopped at the mosque doorway.

Things got even worse when Obama came to the office. So what purpose does it serve to keep men in harm’s way, when the outcome is already determined?

Hopefully there’s a duplex located in the hottest spot in hell waiting for Bush and Rumsfeld to meet up with Johnson and McNamara.

Please explain how wanting to withdraw troops from Afghanistan is against the military.

The Congressman is right. President Obama expanded this war by sending in additional troops with no clear objectives. They should be withdrawn.

When was the “The war in Afghanistan” approved by the U.S. Congress? I can’t remember. Anyway, we will not be removing troops from Afghanistan because it is a permanent base just to the East of Iran like the “100 year” base placed in Iraq to the West of Iran. We of course are currently drawing down troops from all over the World to rest them and prepare them for the major Middle East conflict being planned for this Spring; Israel Vs. Iran. This, the same Iran that Today announced; “A trial court in Iran has issued its final verdict, ordering a Christian pastor to be put to death for leaving Islam and converting to Christianity.”
How many nuclear weapons does Israel have currently? No one knows! They have been wise enough not to divulge their capabilities. Go Israel.
