Illegal Immigrants-Drug Charge: 1,000 pounds of pot found


REIDSVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities in Rockingham County have
arrested two illegal immigrants living in Reidsville after
sheriff's deputies seized more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana and
$600,000 in cash.

The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office said 26-year-old Jose
Gomez and 30-year-old Antonio Nunez are charged with trafficking
marijuana. A sheriff's deputy said Monday both men have waived
their right to an attorney.

On Sunday, Rockingham sheriff's deputies and narcotics officers
from the Greensboro Police Department carried out a search warrant
at the home where the two men lived. The authorities located and
seized 1,060 pounds of marijuana, over $600,000 is U.S. currency
and an AR-15 assault rifle.

It was also determined that the men are in the United States
illegally. Both are under detainers from U.S. Immigrations and
Customs Enforcement.
