BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — For nearly a year, a Brunswick county family has been desperately asking for information surrounding the death of their teenaged son. Marcus Hankins, 19, was shot and killed outside of the Brunswick County Democratic Party headquarters in Bolivia last spring.

Over the past 11 months, investigators say they’ve been trying to piece together the clues to gain more insight into who is responsible for killing the star football player just weeks before he was set to graduate.
Even Governor Perdue approved a $5,000 reward for an arrest in the case.

On Wednesday, police announced they have finally found some answers.

“What you had was a group of people that decided that they needed to pull guns and shoot and there was a lot of shooting that night. These are the six that we are actually able to prove shot weapons in that vicinity that night,” Brunswick County Sheriff’s Deputy Charlie Miller said.

Police have charged Samar Gardner, Sr’cedric Hewett, Jamar Bethea, Tyrell Webb, Rashen Bellamy, and Michael Frink with inciting a riot. All but Webb have been arrested and are behind bars.

Bellamy, known as Ray Ray, was a standout football player at South Brunswick.

Investigators also charged Kelly Tolley with providing alcohol to minors.

The investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to contact Lt. Donna Simpson at (910)253-2732.
