PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Pender County Sheriff’s deputies are at Topsail High School after the staff heard rumors of what a school district spokeswoman called “a disruption” during the school day.

Pender County Schools spokeswoman Joyce Keith tells WWAY the rumor was that “a disruption” would happen during the lunchtime Power House, when students have lunch, tutoring and other activities, like club meetings. As a result, school administrators canceled the Power Hour and asked the Sheriff’s Office to investigate.

Keith says deputies have not found anything of concern on campus. She said even though the information came from rumor, the school must treat rumors carefully.
