RALEIGH, NC (NEWS RELEASE) -– Brenda Fullwood, a retiree from Bolivia in Brunswick County, got a lot more than she bargained for at a pawn shop in Shallotte. The Carolina Cash 5 ticket she bought at Jenny’s Pawn Shop on Holden Beach Road matched all five numbers in Monday’s drawing to win the $91,855 jackpot.

Her claim marks the eighth Cash 5 jackpot for a Brunswick County winner, and the second for a resident of Bolivia. Players from Southport, Navassa, Leland, Shallotte and Calabash have also won Cash 5 jackpots.

Since the lottery began through June 30 of last year, Brunswick County players won more than $35.5 million in prizes and local retailers earned more than $5 million in commissions on ticket sales.

During the same time frame, Brunswick County education programs received more than $15.8 million in lottery funds. By law, those funds pay for teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction, need-based college scholarships, and prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds.

To date, the NC Education Lottery has raised more than $2.2 billion for these initiatives statewide.
