WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is preparing juvenile petitions against seven girls allegedly involved in a fight at a Wilmington middle school last week. Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Jerry Brewer says investigators believe the fight Thursday at Williston Middle School was gang related.

Sgt. Brewer says all seven girls will be charged with simple assault. Three of the girls will face a charge of felony second-degree kidnapping.

Brewer says the juvenile petitions will be delivered to the girls’ parents. The children will then have to appear in court.

New Hanover County Schools issued a statement today about the incident reading:

“New Hanover County Schools is working with the Sheriff’s Office – Gang Task Force on this incident and the district continues to work to prevent gang-related activities from occurring in our schools. We can confirm that there was an incident at Williston where the Gang Task Force is involved. Appropriate discipline for the students involved has been administered. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) does not allow us to disclose the names of the alleged perpetrators or victims. Under FERPA, we also cannot discuss the type of discipline administered.

“The district takes this incident very seriously and we will not tolerate any type of gang behavior in the schools. Over the last year, NHCS has seen a significant reduction in the number of incidents such as this and we will continue to work to ensure the safety of all students.”

Why can’t they discuss the type of discipline administered if they don’t name the suspects?

“Appropriate discipline for the students involved has been administered.”

I guess we’ll just have to take your word for that.

  • CCRES says:

And yet New Hanover County news stations has pressured Columbus County Schools about their corporal punishment policy?
Sure! We want our schools to be just like New Hanover County….thug city!

  • PublicAvenger says:

Why are we wasting tax dollars, and allowing these animals to roam the halls of our schools ? When I was a kid, it would simply mean 7 less problems, for the principle, and the genuine students, to worry about, and be afraid of. They would have been expelled.

I bet each one has been in trouble before, and will be in trouble again. But we don’t have a “gang problem” in our schools.

Why don’t we just expell them. Why are we allowing the 10% to ruin it for everyone else ?

  • anne says:

Gang members are an insiduous piece of evil just lurking behind the cowardly acts that they do. They are becoming rampant in the schools and we let them. Why? All in the name of privacy they are disciplined or are they really? Do they get a smack on the hand and told they have to behave or are they treated like the criminals they have become and dealt with accordingly? They will not stop – they will grow. Compare them to the kudzu – it grows on anything and will take over anything in its path. The justice system needs re-vamping and needs to deal with these people harshly.

    They will not stop.

That school is filled with hoodrats that don’t care about anything. Even with the required uniforms some of the boys still walk around with their underwear hanging out, the girls are ghetto drama looking for a place to happen.

Okay But You Shouldn’t call Anyone Out Of There name, if Your Black Or White .

  • Madison says:

I go to williston. Im in seventh grade now. And i can PROMISE you that me and MOST of my friends are NOT ghetto drama. Me and my best friend are from Cathlic schools. We r NOT ghetto bi**hs looking for drama. We stay OUT of it. And my boyfriend does NOT hang his pants around his arse and let his underwear stick out. You need to realize that yes there are ghetto drama filles girls and boys wearin the pants around there butt. But not EVERYONE doea that or is that.

I am a fellow pupil of Williston middle school, today my amazing school is still living under the hood, ghetto reputation, all I can say about the abuse it gets is that it’s not fair. Sure bad things have happened ther, and sure it is a 55/45 African American to white people. Does that change a thing? Does the location effect the learning of AIG students? No. No and No. We have a new principal and a new beginning, we are working on changing our reputation. Help if you believe in equalitie and second chances. And make another remark like this to bring the students down and disregard the African Americans at our school by calling them hood rats. Fine. Just fine.

Being a parent of two children that went there for three years. I can tell you what has happened. All of our Middle Schools and High Schools here have a section in the school for “Resource officers”. When a fight breaks out it is left up to the officers to deal with it according. It is not up to the principal anymore to call the parents of the parties involved and for the parents to come to the school to talk to the principal. The resource officers will call the parents and have them come Right Then. The parents are told the child/children involved will have to go to Juvenile court. They will have to go and see a officer of the court and that person makes the decision if the case goes to the juvenile court or not. If, not the officer of the court will hand down the punishment for the crime. Then, the school decides what as far as they go what the punishment is for suspension or expulsion. To all parents out there, please explain this to your newcoming middle schoolers. If they are to get into a fight with someone who stalked them, and then came at them first. They have to stand there and get beat up. They can’t defend their selves at all. If they hit the person back they will be charged with Affray. Then they will get 10 days out of school suspension and go to juvenile court and get 24 hours community service. So, what are we teaching our children? Stand there and take it versus fight your way outta it? At least enough to get away and find a teacher/staff member? These kids these days wanna kill not hurt. It is violent in those schools anyway you put it. I feel for them all.

  • Charles Walters says:

You are so right, schools are violent places. This is the fault of schools that refused to take action against the ones who were causing the trouble in the first place. They let the gangs rule, because they did not want to get sued for putting the gangs out of business. You can also blame law enforcement because they were to scared to raid places like Creekwood and shut them down. Maybe if would have locked up a bunch of them with no plea bargins from the DA’s office and good long sentences in prison with no parole they might learn. Finally blame the parents and hold them accountable for what their idiot children do. Make it cost them tons of money, and cut off their welfare payments if their children cause trouble. I think a good way to punish people like this is to declare them mentally defective and shoot them up with thorazine and lock them up in a mental ward, because normal people do not act like this. Normal people do not sell drugs, normal people do not run with gangs, and shoot people just because of the colors they wear or where they live. Tell me if I am wrong, because normal people who follow the law do not act like this.

  • Charles Walters says:

I did a little research, and I bet if the fools who wear their pants half way down knew how that started they would pull them up. It seem that in the prison system it is the code for letting other prisoners know you are willing to have sex with another male prisoner. So by wearing their pants this way it seems they saying they want to have sex with other males. Spread this little ray of truth around and see how fast they pull up their pants. Now for the girls, if you dress like a hooker and a hoodrat hoochee thats how you will be treated. I hope the DA refuses a plea bargin and locks these fools up for as long as possible, and sends the message this crap is over in the schools.

  • guesty says:

I didn’t call “Anyone Out Of There name.” I made a general observation of some of the students at that school.

You and your boyfriend may be the exception to the rule.
