RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC (AP) — Gov. Bev Perdue’s verbal drumbeat in support of raising additional revenues for the public schools next year is heading to one of the big technology companies located in North Carolina.

Perdue was scheduled to speak Wednesday morning to employees at Cisco Systems in Research Triangle Park. Perdue’s office said it was the next stop on a “K-12 education tour” that Perdue began this week to build public pressure upon Republican lawmakers to repair education cuts and make up for expiring federal funds that
local districts have used to hire school personnel.

Republicans have said Perdue’s proposal to raise sales taxes by three-quarters of a penny isn’t going anywhere and that Democrats have exaggerated the breadth of cuts while overlooking their own spending reductions in 2009 and 2010.
