WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Patients of a Wilmington doctor who pleaded guilty last week to illegally prescribing narcotics and attempting to traffic opium have a short window to get back their medical records.

Police arrested Guy David Dyer nearly two years ago.

Fewer than 40 of Dyer’s former patients have picked up records from the approximately 600 files police seized during the investigation.

Patients can pick up their records until April 24 at the Wilmington Police Department. Anyone picking up records will not be charged in connection to Dyer’s crimes.

Unclaimed records will be destroyed.

Dyer pleaded guilty to four counts of prescribing a controlled substance without a legal medical purpose and three counts of attempting to traffic opium. He received a suspended sentence of 84-104 months, an active sentence of 150 days, in which he got credit for time served, and 36 months probation.

The investigation stemmed from concerns by local pharmacy staff, medical practices and concerned citizens who were concerned about the number of prescriptions Dr. Dyer was writing for narcotic pain relievers. Patient charts, other medical records and other items were seized when investigators searched Dyer’s business, residence and financial institutions.

but that doesnt say they arent on a watch list for doctor shopping or other related crimes. I guarantee those people wont be coming to get their records because I doubt many of them had a legitimate MD Patient relationship considering this guys history.. They might not be arrest in connection to his stuff but thats not to say the WPD hasnt already gathered other evidence to arrest them when they come in for something not directly connected to Dr Dyer and could easily be false names being used by the patients. Wonder how many John Smiths he was seeing ;)
